Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K-Jungle begins with the phrase: "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter-J." A die-cut circle provides a glimpse of a jaguar's spotted coat through the verdant foliage. Flipping the page reveals the animal, and the word "Jaguar" with the letter "J" from the previous page shown through the cutout. This pattern is repeated throughout both texts, and the first letter of each animal named corresponds with the spelling of the respective habitat. The pleasing illustrations, done in soft, lush colors, and the clever format are integral parts of the stories. Although the typical audience for board books will enjoy these titles, the guessing element and animal-fact pages may be beyond this group, and better suited to children in preschool or kindergarten. Attractive additions offering a slightly new variation on the popular "I spy" theme.

What a cute little book! My daughter and I have loads of fun 'spying' on the little jungle animals. The book is bright and colorful - a great first reader for any preschooler. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for 2 y/o letter recognition, March 2, 2008
This review is from: I Spy in the Jungle (Board book)
We got this book at the library and the first day we had it home, my son wanted me to read it to him no less than 10 times in a row! By the 3rd day, he was saying the letters "I spy with my little eye something starting with the letter U" and remembering the animal names that I had read. While it's not an I Spy book where you have to hunt for the object, for the younger set, it is apparently very engaging and a great way for beginning letters and words. I love it! The jungle animal facts at the end are a great bonus too. I wish there were many more in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big hit with my one-year-old!!, December 11, 2006
This review is from: I Spy in the Jungle (Board book)
My daughter loves this book. First there is the page that starts "I spy with my little eye...", and it has a cut-out showing a peek at what the animal is. She loves to point to and touch the next page through the hole. Then she sticks a finger through the hole to flip the page, and an animal appears! She just smiles and giggles at the animals. We like to make animal sounds in our house too, so this book lets us roar like lions. It is a great hands-on book for the youngest toddlers.
