Editorial Reviews

Review

"Rarely have the rules of narrative been more imaginatively ignored." —Slate.com

"The writing is Brian Joseph Davis at his madcap best. . . . Davis is an inventive writer, and his irreverent wit and absurdist tendencies permeate I, Tania. . . . For those looking for something wildly original [this book] is worth kidnapping."  —This Magazine

"By turns aggressive and hilarious, it's a twisted assault on mass culture where nothing is sacred and nothing is safe. Blowing things up has never been so much fun."  —National Post

"Should appeal to fans of 1970s and 80s pop culture and cultural theory, and those who can appreciate a good Donald Barthelme joke."  —Quill & Quire

"If punk rock was a book, this would be it."  —Philadelphia Weekly

"The sustained radical reading of [The Bad News Bears] is the funniest piece of writing I’ve come across all year."  —FFWD

"An absurdly attractive prose poem that is filled with laughter and lyrical aphorisms."  —Hour

"An insanely funny first novel . . . innovative and truly bizarre."  —NOW Magazine

Product Description

America lies in ruins during an age of decline, despair, and death. The year is 1975 and a radical far-left group has kidnapped a young woman from one of America's richest families. Using the memoir format just enough to spin off into a crazed, bawdy, and seditious charge through pop culture and politics, this is a highly fictionalized true story of the rise and fall of the Symbianese Liberation Army, as it never happened.

2.0 out of 5 stars eh...., March 4, 2008
Davis seems to be under the impression to incongruous mash-ups pass for humor and writing, filling his paragraphs with vaguely linked characters juxtaposed with obviously ridiculous attributes. Sometimes - but not often enough - amusing, the whole book feels like a second-rate Mark Leyner rough draft.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brains, beauty, and bombs, March 16, 2008
By Edith E (Valencia) - See all my reviews
Dare I say it? This is the book we fans of Patty Hearst (oh and Huggy Bear, Ian Curtis, Don Delillo and um...John McEnroe) have been waiting for. Ferociously funny and fierce, this book throws out as many jokes as possible to tell the "story" of a heiress-turned-terrorist. Some of the jokes are brilliant. Some, admittedly, stumble or go right over my head but I, Tania moves fast enough past its rough edges and makes you want to read out loud to your roommates.
