Well.., March 15, 2003
This review is from: I Think I Love You (Audio CD)
I, too, saw Katie's showcase on "Bubblegum Babylon," and was not terribly impressed with what I saw. Katie does bear some resemblance to her father (particularly when she smiles), and so the fact that she is coming out with: A) a famous last name [UNLIKE Norah Jones], B) an agenda that stresses her relationship to said famous parent [again, UNLIKE Jones, who has done everything in her power to distance herself from Shankar], and C) a remake of her parent's big hit, makes the whole thing look gimmicky, and not just a *cute* kind of gimmicky.
Case in point: if one of Donny Osmond's kids threw a revamped bit of "Puppy Love" into their stage show, but didn't make it a central focus for their career, it would be cute.
This is not cute. This is...sad.
Katie seems like a truly nice person who really wants a career, but this is not a good idea. The song is a hyperactive, whitewashed, oversynthesized mess, and you can barely hear Katie singing. I'll bet she has talent--but terrible management.
The basic problem can be summed up in a quote from one of the little girls HIRED from a local dance studio to cheer at Katie's showcase/concert.
After the show, this elementary-school tot was asked what she thought of the show. The child's reply? She liked Katie because she was pretty and can dance well. Not a word was said about her singing ability.
Katie seems to be falling into the same trap her father faced: letting the image take over the singer.

Katie's awesome, August 21, 2003
This review is from: I Think I Love You (Audio CD)
I first became intrigued with Katie Cassidy after seeing the special on VH1. I thought she was pretty, and I really liked the song...she seems very down to earth and sweet. So I ordered the single, and I like it. I agree that Kaci's is better, but just because I like the arrangment of Kaci's. I think the arrangement of Katie's single was ok and all, Kaci's was just better. But you can tell that Katie has one fantastic voice, and I for one can't wait for her to come out with an album, I'm sure it will be great.

I'm reccomending this cd for the first track,
whereas the dance remix is dull.
