OH YES, BRING ME MORE,
By Kilgore Trout "worldwidewebb01" (Columbia, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Wanna Be New & Perfect (Audio CD)
What is it about Seattle that breeds such awesome musicians? The water? Magic earth dust blown into the air by Mt. St. Helen's? The ghost of Seattle native Jimi Hendrix? Whatever it is, Seattle band Feyray has drunk, snorted or channeled it into this album. Wanting to be both new AND perfect is quite a bit to ask, but academic discussions about how indefinable such terms are aside, Feyray comes pretty damn close on both accounts. As a whole, the album deftly segues from guitar-crunching-wall-of-noise-art-rock-fusion to sweetly (the non-sickly variety) melancholic pop melodies a la Elliot Smith. I can't hear a bad cut, but some do stand out: `Brand New String', `Reflections on Radicalism in America', `All Mixed up Under a Tree', and `I've been Fighting my Own War' are my personal faves; oh yeah, and the title cut too and... and... oh f**k it, they all shimmer and shimmy in their own awesome ways. These dogs just won't lay down. Pick up their album today and feel their sharp but perfectly wielded bite.
