5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous mix of great music
Great CD! A real gem. Blues, jazz, contemporary all on one album: this mixture doesn't always work, but on this one it does. What a relief from most of the garbage out today. Talent oozes from this CD: from the songwriting to the musicians and finally the production. I've never heard of Keith Stafford before, I should have: he's great. Cathy Jean can sing! Other...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not your rockin blues
It was too smooth for me,I like my blues with a lot of guitar, it sounded like a 50's lounge act to me. "I'm Your Girl" was a nice cut, more of the style I like. The Sax playing on this album was definetly not to my liking. I thought the songwrtiting was a little lame/sophmoric on some cuts. I liked her singing, but I would have liked it much better with a...

Talent oozes from this CD: from the songwriting to the musicians and finally the production. I've never heard of Keith Stafford before, I should have: he's great. Cathy Jean can sing! Other supposedly great female vocalist should take note. By the way the first I heard this CD it was by mistake when someone left it in my player at work. It was days later that I saw the cover and booklet and would like to say that not only is Cathy Jean blessed with an incredible voice, she's also very beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immitation is flattery, November 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want (Audio CD)
For all this whining about Cathy Jean's CD cover and booklet: I just want to say that since the release of "I Want", I have counted 6 other blues artists who have copy-cated the pose on this CD cover for their own new records/releases!! Immitation is the biggest form of flattery! Now if that don't give you a clue as to how good an artist Cathy Jean is and that people are impressed... On this CD, she was obviously very angry with somebody and managed to put it all into clever lyrics. (Instead of just cussing at everyone like the music that we have to hear on radio today.) Track 13, "I Want Your Mother To Know/Rotten B." is a fun, cajun sounding example of how you can dance to the music while completely telling someone off. I love it! Keep on, girl!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great "gritty" blues sound, January 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want (Audio CD)
The way I think the blues are best defined. In particular I enjoyed "Please Stop Seeing That Girl" & "I'm Your Girl". She can sing & she can write the blues the way that they are meant to be. I'm a big fan of Muddy Waters & John Lee Hooker also Bonnie Raitt & Angela Strehli and now I'm including Cathy Jean in that group. I really liked the music!

4.0 out of 5 stars On The Brink Of Stardom!, October 17, 2001
By
This review is from: I Want (Audio CD)
For some unknown reason, the producers of Cathy Jean's "I Want" decided to include a 20 page cheesecake booklet featuring various poses of a scantly clad, and heavily implanted "Cathy Jean". If it's true what they say that sex sells, then the producers of this CD were obviously shooting for platinum. Fortunately for Jean, what she lacks in natural appearance, she makes up for in vocals and silicon. Putting the booklet aside, the CD itself is surprisingly good. Jean demonstrates a range of songs from the smooth jazzed flavored "Why Don't You See Me" to the bluesy "Unfinished Business" and from the swinging "Be Glad" to the 70's funky "How Many". Not to be overlooked is the gospel tune "Blues Psalm" in which Jean's soulful vocals are accompanied only by a sax. Good stuff! Make no mistake about it, Jean has talent. However, in order to break out, it seems that she will need to decide to which audience she wants to appeal, or which magazine she wants to be featured in, and just go for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it, May 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want (Audio CD)
The songs are original and her singing is fantastic. She has a great style that gives each song a distinctive presentation. I enjoyed the arrangements. Obviously there was a lot of effort put into this whole CD. I also enjoyed the overall design of the CD. The sexy pictures combined with the humorous ones and the family ones were a great combination.

From 1st track until the last one, there's not one weak cut on the whole CD. She's got a really great voice, and really knows how to express herself through words. The whole CD is awesome. All her original songs have fantastic meaning. Strong, strong songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cd smokes!, September 7, 1999

Cool scat riffs, powerful vocals. Every song hits the mark. Check out her phrasing and inflection! Apparently Cathy Jean has lived her fair share of the blues and is not afraid to write or sing about it. Strong disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really like this artist, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want (Audio CD)
I have to confess that when I saw Cathy Jean's picture my interest was hormonally driven, but I also love the blues so I thought I'd give the CD a shot. I admit that me eyes bugged out when I saw the photos in the CD packaging, but I am even MORE impressed with her voice and music! Obviously if she was awful I'd just have some great photos to look at, but she definately isn't awful and I can't get enough of her music! I do know one thing for sure-- I'd sure hate to have her mad at me! Some o'dem songs is mean! (I can relate, though-- I've had people who have scarred my soul for life, too!) I sure hope that more people catch on to Cathy. Anybody who would discount her because she is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, sexy white girl doesn't have a CLUE! If she were ugly and permanently cross-eyed nobody in their right mind could deny her talent. I know for a fact that I'd still be a fan.
