Book Description

May 6, 1999
Aiming to link the emotional and legal aspects of divorce without becoming weighed down by either psychological or legal jargon, this book begins with an analysis of the divorce process in seven stages: breakdown, shock, anger, pain, hatred, grief and acceptance. It then describes the legal process and how to negotiate it: solicitors, costs, first moves, finances, housing, types of orders, mediation, procedures and courts. Case studies are presented to illustrate particular experiences common to many marriage crises, and a list of relevant addresses and telephone numbers is provided.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable and realistic, June 12, 2006
This review is from: I Want a Divorce? (Paperback)
The first part of this books deals with the emotional side of divorce and the various emotional stages you may be up against while you're deciding on whether to divorce, in the process of divorcing, or trying to recover from divorce. The main strength of the book is that it doesn't take a stand one way or another, taking a more clinical and analytical stance, but in spite of this (or maybe because of this) it is very successful in letting you know that a) you're not alone b) no-one else can tell you what is really right for you.
The second part focuses on the legal aspects of divorce, based on British law, and therefore not fully applicable in other countries, but can serve as a guideline in what you should be thinking about and sorting out prior to a divorce.
