5.0 out of 5 stars I Want to Live Review!!!, April 27, 2005
A Kid's Review
I Want to Live is a really good book. I like this book because it tells you what it's like to have cancer. I don't think this book could be any better. If you were looking for a book I would recommend this one especially if you were a girl.

Dawn, the main character, was in remission, but then she needed a bone marrow transplant. Your going to have to read it yourself to find out what happens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brotherly Love, March 12, 2005
For the past year, Dawn has been in remission. Though she has to be in remission for four more years to be declared "cured", Dawn's blood tests have been coming out positive, and life continues to go on. Then Rob, Dawn's older brother, arrives home from college with great news- he's getting married! His wife-to-be, Darcy, is pretty and nice. But Dawn senses that Darcy doesn't like her because of her cancer. At first Dawn wonders if maybe she's just feeling jealous of Darcy's perfect life and attitude, but when Dawn's cancer returns, with only a bone marrow from her brother to save her life, Darcy becomes more and more upset, which causes her brother to become upset, too, and Dawn is afraid that she is ruining her EVERYONE'S life with her cancer. But that won't last much longer if the transplant doesn't work...

This book was very touching. It talked about the closeness between Dawn and Rob, and Rob's loyalty to her in this rough time, when death is waiting at Dawn's door. It was very interesting, and was a page-turner for me. I ended up reading it from beginning to end in only one morning. Like the last book, it also talks about cancer, and is educational if you want to know what cancer really is. I recommend it to girls who love good books!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Want to Live, November 27, 2004

Kaona "a book worm" (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
I Want to Live is the second book in the Dawn Rochelle series. This book was, in my opinion, the best book in the Dawn Rochelle series. Dawn has to get a bone marrow transplant, and her brother, Rob is a compatible donor. Her doctor said that if she doesn't get a bone marrow transplant, she'll die. After she got the transplant, she got really sick. She died for a few seconds. She had no vital signs, but she wasn't completely dead yet. The doctors managed to revive her. Her being alive was a miracle, because she came to close to death. There wasn't anything about this book that I didn't like. Lurlene McDaniel has this way that her books just captivate you. You can't put them down. And she makes you become attached to the main character(s) that makes you feel as if you know them in real life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close to Death, December 10, 2001

A Review by Laura
This story is about a girl named Dawn, with cancer. She wants to live a normal life with out being treated like she is sick all the time. For a while her cancer was in remission, but one day when she went to the hospital for a check up she finds out that her cancer is back.

I really liked this book because I can kind of understand how Dawn feels being a teenager and all. She has to face a lot of different challenges since she has cancer. I also understand how her brother Rob felt and how he had to deal with Dawns cancer. I also thought that Darcy was very selfish in thinking only about her wedding instead of caring about dawn.

I really think people should read this book because it is really good and it kind of made me think a little more about people with cancer or any thing else, and also understand what they have to go through.

This novel is about one of many tribulations that Dawn Rochelle has to face during her life its about Dawn thinking that her cancer is in remission and it is for awhile when suddenly her cancer comes out of remission.I found this book to be intuallectually stimulating and very eventful.I always Love to read any novel by the greatest author ever Lurlene Mc Daniel.I have read every book that has been in print throughout the last few years. The first book I ever read by Lurlene Mc Daniel was For Better,For Worse,Forever in my school library I enjoyed this book imensly and wanted to read more about the people in Lurlene Mc Daniels novels. My fantastic teacher had a Lurlene Mc Daniel novel from when she was a kid so she said when she went home at chrismas she would bring it back for me and sure enough she did.It was a fantastic novel called If I Should Die Before I Wake.So in closing I would Just Like to thank Lurlene Mc Daniel for writing such amasingly inspiring novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charts the lapse of Dawn's remission period, July 5, 2001
All five books about Dawn Rochelle's struggles with cancer and overall health have been reprinted and will make a fitting gift for any who want the complete set. I Want To Live charts the lapse of Dawn's remission period and the challenges she faces in handling a bone marrow transplant from her brother; but the others in the series detailing her initial diagnosis, struggle for life, encounter with an ill friend, and ongoing mental changes make for excellent leisure choices.
