3.0 out of 5 stars Cool live album.
This live album from Helloween was recorded in November 1988 when Michael Kiske was singing with the band. Helloween is a cool German band that plays hard rock with a melodic and metallic touch. The tracks come from three different albums--Walls of Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys-Part I, and Keeper of the Seven Keys-Part II. I find I Want Out-Live to be an enjoyable...

This album is a little bit of a throwaway. After the KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS II tour, Helloween began to suffer from problems that would almost destroy them, first of them the exit of founder / mastermind Kai Hansen. Then, due to contracts / record companie issues, Helloween was prohibited to release new studio material. So, this live "album" (only 7 songs) was released (under different names for the U.S., Europe and Japan)to fill the gap while the band settled their differences.

However, the few songs here shows a freshness and great playing that was seldom displayed by this band from this point onward... It was recorded during their British tour of 1988.

It's only for the completists, but it's a really fine album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine, but...., March 6, 2003
This review is from: I Want Out: Live (Audio CD)
I bought this in like Spring of 1989 and it was recorded in late 1988. When I bought it, I was going to go see them in like two weeks on the Headbanger's Ball tour with Exodus and Anthrax. I thought it was a good cd, I wish it could have been longer. Then two weeks later, I saw them and they played the same exact set in the same order with Michael Kiske doing some of the same introductions. My fault for buying it before I saw them, but now it is kind of like a souvenir from the show because it is very similiar to when I saw them in 89. A good cd and the last testement to that sound for Helloween as that would soon change and it was also the last release with Kai Hansen as he quit in the middle of the tour. Roland Grapow had replaced him by the time I saw them and I was shocked because I did not know ahead of time and I wondered about the future of the band because Kai had done so much of the writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A breathtaking live performance by the fathers of powermetal, January 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want Out: Live (Audio CD)
Helloween at their best! I get the chills whenever I listen to this concert, every band member gives his soul for this live. This is without dought Helloween's best concert ever recorded.

This concert was recorded in late 1988 in Scotland, when Helloween were at the peak of their career and is the last recording featuring legendary guitarist and songwriter Kai Hansen . From the first song to the last, the band plays almost flawlessly with a lot of energy and emotion.

The highlights of this album are "Dr. Stein" (unbelievable performance), "We Go The Right" (outstanding!), the extended "Future World" and "How Many Tears".

Vocalist Michael Kiske is the star of the night! Throughout the whole concert his voice reaches to the heavens, hitting high-pitched notes with such precision and emotion never heard before by any other singer in metal. Especially his performance in the track "We Got The Right" is breathtaking; the song shows the depth, power, emotion and charisma of the vocals this 19 year old (back in 1988) possessed!

As for the guitarists, both Hansen and Weikath are incredible, great solos and wonderful execution of twin-guitar leads. The last track of the album "How Many Tears" was a perfect selection to close the concert. A really fast track with a very slow, wonderfully played harmonic part in the middle and a melodic and fast ending, which makes drummer Igno stand out (this version of the song is considered a masterpiece amongst Helloween fans).

The only drawback of the album is the set list which leaves out epics like Eagle Fly Free, March Of Time, Twilight Of The Gods and Halloween. That being said, there isn't a filler or weak-played song in this album and the interaction of Michael Kiske with the crowd is quite interesting.

If you enjoyed "Keeper of the seven keys part I & II" you will LOVE this album, as it is the only official live recording with this line up. Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I & II together with this live album are the best material ever recorded by Helloween!

If you liked the Keepers, this is a MUST BUY, if you enjoy live albums in general this is again a must buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool live album., October 12, 2000

This live album from Helloween was recorded in November 1988 when Michael Kiske was singing with the band. Helloween is a cool German band that plays hard rock with a melodic and metallic touch. The tracks come from three different albums--Walls of Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys-Part I, and Keeper of the Seven Keys-Part II. I find I Want Out-Live to be an enjoyable and energetic live album. I've had this disc for many years. All of the tracks were recorded in Edinburgh, Scotland except for "I Want Out." "I Want Out" was recorded in Manchester, England. There's a total of six tracks. The musicianship is tight, and Michael Kiske does a good job with the vocals. The album's production is also satisfying. My favorite tracks are "Future World" and "I Want Out." The album is just over forty-two minutes in length. I'm surprised that more songs weren't included on I Want Out-Live. It would have been nice if "Halloween" and "March of Time" had been included. The banter between one of the members of Helloween and the audience is also cool and enjoyable throughout. There are no individual bandmember solos. The CD booklet contains a few tour photos of the band. Anybody that likes Helloween should enjoy I Want Out-Live. It's cool and worth a listen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Recording, August 4, 2010

I picked up this cassette in a bargain bin in the mid 90's and played it maybe once or twice. I saw Helloween live in the mid 80's in Spain and even then, they just didn't rock my boat. I love that they are a power metal force in the same vein as Iron Maiden. However, though I've heard them both live and recorded, none of their songs stick out. I can vaguely remember a melody here and there, but nothing they have played or recorded sticks out in my mind, even after several listens.

All the elements are there of a great classic band, from the musicianship to their excellent album covers. The Michael Kiske has a vocal range very similar to Bruce Dickinson and he can really wail when called for. This live album includes much of the same banter I heard when I saw them live. However, especially on the first few songs, the muffled sound makes it seem more like someone was in the audience holding up a microphone.

I supposed they played some of their most popular songs in this set, and many of the crowd seems to know them well. However, after hearing much of their stuff and seeing them, I barely recognized one snippet of melody in one of the songs. Can't even remember which one. Not to take from the band, but their songs just don't do it for me.

Overall, this music was well-played and they certainly know how to wow the crowd. However, the recording quality and lack of more songs makes this less the ideal live album. If Helloween rocks your boat, I'd recommend one of their other live albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helloween Live!!, June 6, 2001

This review is from: I Want Out: Live (Audio CD)
This album is pretty cool, it captures Michael Kiske's powerful voice live! The only thing that's a drag about this album is the lack of songs. It's missing a lot of they're classic hits like: "Eagle Fly Free", "Rise & Fall", "Keeper Of The 7 Keys", "Halloween", "I'm Alive", "March Of Time", "Save Us", "Victim Of Fate" and so on. The most notable songs on the album are: "Dr. Stein", "I Want Out" & "Future World".

So other than the lack of material, it's a good live album featuring Michael Kiske with Helloween. It's a nice album to add to your Helloween collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars deceiving, September 14, 2005
This review is from: I Want Out: Live (Audio CD)
good guitars and bass - boring, very boring, drums - vocals .... boring, too.

the only positive thing was the low price.

if you want to know what is heavy metal, please listen to Iron Maiden, Iced Earth (and some other, of course) and you will be IN HM.
