The Chelsea Show,
This review is from: I Was a Teenage Strangler Uncut! (DVD)
Although notable for being the first film to feature Misty Mundae (she's credited in the opening titles as Lil' Erin DeWright), her sister, Chelsea (a.k.a. Daisy DeWright), is the star of this sleazy exploitation sensation from Factory 2000. Filmed in 1997 and issued on VHS in 1998, this is the first time that this movie has been presented on DVD. According to the accompanying liner notes, the video version was subjected to some editing because it was felt that some of its contents went a little too far. This DVD edition is, apparently, the uncut version, and there are a few scenes, mostly involving Chelsea's character, that are quite startling.
Winston (Josh Miller) has invited a group of local slackers to a party at his house. Meanwhile, his brother, Myles (Dave Uzi), has decamped from the mental hospital. Myles has been staying there because of his liking for strangling people. As the partygoers look forward to a night of drink, drugs and sex, a masked man dressed in black slips into the house. You may think that this sounds like standard slasher-film fare where a bunch of kids gets picked off one-by-one by a madman. Well, the film does descend into just that. Indeed, the film's last 30 minutes sag quite badly, but the jaw-dropping action comes before the party gets into swing. There's a graphic scene with Michi and Freak Nasty that makes for uncomfortable viewing. These two also get it on in somewhat less unpleasant fashion in the lost opening of `Vampire Strangler' which can be found in the bonus material on Vampire Strangler 2-DVD Collector's Edition. However, the result of their unfortunate union in `I Was a Teenage Strangler' is Michi's pregnancy. As for Chelsea, she's heard that Michi has taken up residence in the basement. Chelsea hypnotizes a friend (Mikey Ovum) in order to find out if this rumor is true. She delivers her lines with tongue firmly in cheek. I won't let on where she forces Mikey to put his tongue. Depending on your own predilections, you'll feel either jealous or sick to your stomach. If you've seen any of Factory 2000's productions, you will know how shoddy most of them look. This is no exception. The picture quality is rough in places and some of the camera angles are a tad disorienting. The loud music soundtrack occasionally renders some of the dialogue inaudible. You won't see any great acting in this film. All the dialogue is improvised, and, while Chelsea has fun with this, some of it matches the quality of the acting. It's a little disappointing that there is no bonus material on this DVD apart from trailers for other titles. I wonder if an edited version of Chelsea and Misty's interview on the bonus features on Sin Sisters could not have been included. In this interview, they talk about their early film roles for Factory 2000 and Chelsea talks about the abortion sequence in `I Was a Teenage Strangler'. There is a booklet containing some interesting reading material, though. If you're a fan of the exploitation genre, then you may well want to see this film. If you want to see it only for Misty's first screen appearance, you should be warned that she only has a minor role here. She plays it very well, though. Much of the film is pantomime, but Misty plays it straight. If you're a fan of Chelsea Mundae, you won't want to miss this. Explicit, tasteless, disgusting and awful. I liked it.

Where should I start? What words can I conjure up to describe this mess.It is not really a movie. It is a bunch of nerdish misanthropic males who get a cheap VCR camera to film a party.Rarely has such a collection of morons been in one place at the same time for any reason, much less to shoot a movie. The women are better and one or two (including Misty) are not bad to look at.Not that there is one iota of intelligent dialogue. There is none.A complete zero. The soundtrack's only redeeming quality is that it follows the tone of the film.A monotonal baseline followed by 3 cords on the right hand .Indeed, it is quite possible that the musician had never played any instrument before as the bass-line might have been played by a bass since there is only one note in it..
The theme is that of a party being held by a rich psychotic who wants to rid the "hood" of all the people he doesn't like. This is reasonable as there is no reason to like them .Even our dear Misty ,who walks around chainsmoking and whose dialogue is blocked out by the soudtrack, appears to be a 14 year old who is out far past her bedtime. In the midst of this people start being knocked off by the rich kid's brother who was put in a asylum for strangling people..Now you have your plot. Weirdo in black goes around the house strangling everyone he can .Of course no one thinks to poke him in the eyes as he has both hands on their necks .Pokeing both eyes at once is a very effective way of gettting out of a front strangle unless the strangler has a desire to spend his life with a seeing eye dog but none of them seen to grasp this idea. Also no one seems to notice that people are dissappearing. Lastly and thankfully the strangler is strangled himself by his brother. Now:a few questions. Is Misty the strangler? NO!She is a stranglee. Her picture on the front indicates that but we never see the face of the strangler so we hae no idea whether he is even a teenager or not .Since this is Mistys first film must we own it? .No.As stated, Misty appears to be about 14 maybe 15.She has no figure yet and is 2-3 inches shorter than her eventual height and looks like a cute boy..In fact she is obviously too young to even smoke, a habit that she demonstrates during her entire career,to my dismay.Misty so pure and beautiful(in later films) ,always has a cigarette in her mouth during interviews. Is there ANY reason at all to buy the film? YES but only for those who never were at a party where conversation was drowned out by loud 3 cord music and the only thing to do was drink booze and walk around smoking so that your smoke over powers the others smoke.if you never smoked you might not know what I refer too. So lets sum it up: Plot(0)Acting 0)Soundtrack 0)Filming(0).The one star is achieved because you can't go below (1) and I would give a 1/2 star to Chelsea Mundae for suggesting that the strangler and she have sex, with a twinkle in her eye.For her efforts, she is strangled too. If you see a brand new copy of this DVD lying on the ground do not bother to keep it .Throw it into the trash where it belongs.Do not try and sell it on EBay .They deserve better than that.
