"(I'd like to) dedicate the senior class gift to the school: a statue of ME, Bambi LeVine, dressed as your Frawg.",

This review is from: I Were a High School Graduate (Vinyl)
I WERE A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE (1967-EPIC FLM 13112) may have been the first public manifestation of Gail Parent's obsession with the name Levine. Here she stars as Bambi LeVine (pronounced: luh-VINE), aka "The Frawg."In a 1969 episode of THE BILL COSBY SHOW that was scripted by Gail and husband Kenny Solms, Bill (as Chet Kincaid) gets four teen girls to vacate a phone booth. After finishing his call and hanging up, the phone rings. Chet answers, then loudly asks: "Is there a Bambi Levine here?" The giggling girls crowd back into the booth. In the early '70s Miss Parent published a novel called, SHEILA LEVINE IS DEAD AND LIVING IN NEW YORK. She and Kenny later turned it into a now obscure movie that co-starred Roy Scheider. Subsequent to comedy records, Kenny and Gail wrote for the reincarnated Smothers Brothers show and for Carol Burnett's variety series. In their early days they owned a Greenwich Village gag store (Kenny once caught Milton Berle shoplifting) and were contributors to Upstairs at the Downstairs and New Faces of 1966. RELATED ITEMS: Solms & Parent's vinyl debut was a JAMIE Records political satire of LBJ and family, OUR WEDDING ALBUM or THE GREAT SOCIETY AFFAIR. Their ATLANTIC Records follow-up to that is HERE COMES THE BIRD. CAST: Kenny Solms, Gail Parent, Robert Klein, Luba Lisa, Marian Mercer and Rip Taylor. CHARACTERS: The principal of Barry Goldwater High ("we thought he was gonna win") is fey Mr. Wessel (Taylor). The kids call him "Weasel." (Taylor is also "school dieticione" Cecelia Campanzetti.) Wessel hides behind an intercom system. Norman Botley (Solms) is an unpopular nebbish who's only able to get school mascot/head cheerleader Bambi to go out with him by buying a "new 1967 red (Corvair) Monza convertible." She still has a boring time at the prom with tuba-player Norman. Steve Claxton (Klein) is the insouciant 'cycle-riding cool kid that all the girls worship. Stacey aka "nose" (Lisa) just had a rhinoplasty. She looks great, and will be even better-looking when the bandages come off. Guidance counselor Miss Friebus (Mercer) has a posh Thurston Howell III accent.
