A huge part of Marvin Sapp's appeal has been his ability to tap into his own personal pain and weave a heart-touching song that speaks to the masses. Such was the story with his mega-hit song "Never Would Have Made It" and the followup "The Best In Me". In the midst of those waves of success, the "pastor who sings" suffered another painful loss when his wife MaLinda Sapp passed away. So when the time came to record his subsequent album, Marvin chose a title that succinctly speaks about rising above life's trials, and is presenting us with "I Win".

Marvin Sapp just keep bringing so much anointment, praise and worship album after album and this project is NO exception. "I Win" is his 9th project.

Former member of the Gospel group "Commissioned" I really didn't get hipped to Marvin Sapp until his 2003 release "Diary Of A Psalmist" where I fell in love with his song "Miracle" but it wasn't until 2007 with the release of "Thirsty" and the song "Never Would Have Made it" and his 2010 "Here I Am" project and the song "The Best In Me" that made me an official Marvin Sapp bandwagoneer.

Listening to the "I Win" project I felt so much anointing, praise and worship especially with the track "My Testimony" which is really a continuation of "Never Would Have Made It" but this time he made it through all the trials and tribulations despite losing his wife MaLinda Sapp in 2010 but with Christ Jesus he's STILL Victorious. Such a powerful testimonial song.

My favorite song is the title track "I Win" this song truly ministers to my soul and "The Hymns Medley" which is a remake of old School gospel melodies that my Mother would always sing at Mount Zion Baptist church.

I definitely can tell Marvin Sapp poured his heart & soul into this project and I can honestly say he WON cause with all praises to our heavenly Father. I LOVE IT!

This is a true worship and praise album for today's time! I loved his music when he first came out with "Sweeter as the days go by" and "Grace and Mercy". This is one artist that has stayed the course with his music consistently through the years in which I love, while adding a fresh ANOINTED sound with it. This album you can definitely distinguish the difference between a worldly album and this being a true gospel album, with lyrics that have substance to get you through your day and WIN!!! Please continue to keep Marvin Sapp in your prayers that he doesn't not give in to whats popular out there!

Pastor Marvin Sapp knows his audience! His songs minister! I am loving "My Testimony". Not only is it real to him but anyone that has a testimony will find themselves singing "somehow I made it, I made it through....so glad I made it!" Praise God! Congratulations Pastor Sapp & God Bless You !

This CD was well worth the wait. Cuts 1-4 were not exactly as expected but cuts 5-11 are just tremendous. Inspite of the slow start on this CD, I would still recommend it to all the Marvin Sapp lovers.

Between the release of 2010's Here I Am and 2012's I Win, Marvin Sapp has certainly endured some tough situations. The passing of his wife, MaLinda, who served as executive producer of his recordings, certainly could not be easy. Despite his trials and tribulations, Sapp delivers another electrifying, inspirational affair through 2012's I Win. The title itself seems so timely, given the state of things within the world, be it war, economic, or social issues. Throughout, Sapp remains in sound voice, even extending his range even further than he pushed on 2010's Grammy-nominated Here I Am.

After the intro "Teach My Hands to War," the full track follows. A bit quirky upon an initial listen, the Aaron Lindsey penned/produced cut grows on one with time. The cut features excellent production, contrasting its sound compared to previous openers "I Came" and "Magnify" prior to that. The arrangements are excellent, making full utilization of horns, keyboards, and harmonized vocals from the supporting choir. Additionally, the harmonic progression (as it will the entirety of the album) taps into jazz sensibility, which serves Sapp well vocally. "I Belong To You" proceeds, with slightly less fanfare, but still shows off Sapp's commanding lead and strong, encouraging lyrics (this cut was written by Stan Jones). While Sapp does sound strong, one feels that "Teach My Hands to War" and "I Belong To You" are just the warm-up; things begin to get `scorching' hot beginning on "Never."

"Never" is incredibly funky, yielding some of I Win's best production work.... The harmonic progression is superbly structured, the vocals well harmonized within the choir, and one just feels that Sapp sounds looser here than on previous cuts. This newfound inspiration and energy is further translated through the capable title cut "I Win," which features exceptional songwriting, grand orchestration, and much more spiritual intensity and authenticity through the live performance. The vamping section is a highlight here for sure. "Glory" is a step in a slightly different, more modern direction for Sapp. A bit less satisfying than "Never" or "I Win" - at least at first, "Glory" is one that `grows on you.' The production has a nice crossover sound bridging gospel, pop and rock, which is one of its selling points. The biggest detraction might be length, though gospel music tends to be a drawn out style anyways.

"The Hymns Medley" is a longer track than "Glory," but one can feel the spiritual connection yielded given the live aspect. During the medley Sapp - who arranges here - cycles through popular hymns and worship numbers including "I Need Thee Every Hour," "Bless The Lord," and "The Blood Will Never Lose It's Power," among others. Accompanied by organ, there is a natural, organic feel about this cut that makes the listener feel that they are in `church.' Adding even more to the authenticity and spiritual vigor is Sapp's mini sermon towards the end where he testifies and attests to God's goodness.

"Deeper" follows, though doesn't quite live up to the `steam' established by the incredible "The Hymns Medley." Regardless, the cut is another well produced/conceived one, with a vamp being a high watermark. The lengthy, but passionate "My Testimony" is this album's "Never Would've Made It," without reaching those lofty heights respectfully. Sapp begins the cut incredibly subtly, only to erupt into full vigor with the entrance of the choir and the undeniable vamp on the lyrics "So Glad I made it...I made it through." "Do Me Like You" and "Keep It Moving" are `secondary' cuts, much like the closing of previous Sapp albums where some of the steam dissipates ever so slightly. That said, enough capable and credible cuts have already sold the greatness of the effort without the closing cuts.

Overall, I Win is another capable Marvin Sapp album. It's timely message and inspiration should be nothing less than inspirational to its audience. Sure there are a couple of cuts that are less than stellar per say, but for the most part, it is another great addition to any gospel collection. Read more ›

What a great album. Marvin Sapp continues to soar to new heights. Somehow he manages to get better on every album. I was truly inspired after one listen of this prolific masterpiece of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When it comes to gospel not only is Marvin Sapp a winner he's one of the Heavy Weight Champions of Kingdom Business. Favorite tracks are My Tesimony, Glory, Deeper & No Quit. I highly recommend this album because it ministered to me in such a powerful way. Have an open mind, open heart, open spirit and receive the beautiful songs of praise from Pastor Marvin Sapp.
