5.0 out of 5 stars Best recording since 'One Year', February 17, 1999

This review is from: I Won't Be Home Tonight (Audio CD)
Colin is, strangely enough, a highly underated singer who is perhaps the best in pop music. When Echo Bridge was released in 1995,like everything else he's done, it went un-noticed. The choice of material is truly superb and crosses bridges of song types from the coarse material of Billy Bragg in 'Levi Stubbs Tears' to Clifford T Ward's 'The Best is Yet to Come'. Colin not only does justice to these gems but surpasses probably the original versions with his unique delivery. I compare this album to his first solo release, 'One Year' for the reason that there are no bad songs (which is a rare feat nowadays) Colin has always taken risks with his approach to music; 'one year' did that with it's strong classical feel and use of string arrangements in 1971...'Echo' does the same thing 24 years later with the freshness of modern technology! In a world of 'cookie-cutter' music - Colin Blunstone is a rare and unique talent; a gifted songwriter and, without a doubt, the best voice in music today (Art Garfunkel is probably the only other!) Colin remains unblemished by the music industry's overkill of todays musicians and 'Echo Bridge' is testament to his devotion to good songwriting, melody, and arrangement. A superbly recorded and mixed album with powerful musicianship. 'Echo Bridge will undoubtedly, in 25 years, be considered a classic as was 'One Year'!

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely good album. Amazing voice !!!, September 29, 1998

I first heard Colin singing "What becomes of the broken hearted" many years ago and was quite impressed. I then heard "Old & Wise" from Alan Parsons "Eye In The Sky" and his voice just blew my mind. "Echo Bridge" is no disppointment - the emotional power of Colin's voice is still there. The production is polished, although it could have been improved by the addition of some strings and removal of some drum machine... The lyrics are not profound, but DO NOT detract from the haunting quality of his voice. There are no bad tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great First Album, August 10, 2011
This review is from: I Won't Be Home Tonight (Audio CD)
You can't go wrong with most of Tony Carey's music. I own about 10 Carey albums and this one (his first solo album) does not disappoint. I have heard that he wrote the title track for a girl group and they ended up not using it, good thing because it rocks! I Won't Be Home Tonight sets the mood and style that would become Tony's trademark, great production, great lyrics, catchy hooks and a memorable chorus. A multi-instrumentalist (played keyboards on Blackmore's Rainbow Rising album) and a great song writer. My favorite cut is his story in a song "Carry Me". A song about the darker side of life and the excess of the 80's. A drug dealer is writing his girl from jail. The word pictures capture the lifestyle and time period prefectly. There are ballads, rockers and feel good music all in one album. Next up for Carey was his Planet P Project and Pink World but this is where it started, and what a way to start!
