A True Masterpiece,
By Rick Coley (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Won't Be Home Tonight (Audio CD)
In 1982, an artist named Tony Carey emerged onto the music scene at least to the people unaware of the fact he was the keyboardist on a couple of Rainbow albums. The first song released "I Won't Be Home Tonight" released and caught our attention, then if my greying memory serves me right, followed up by "West Coast Summer Nights". If there is one cd that is a true must have for any true music lover its this one. It has stood the hands of time in my collection and always will. Its not a disc that you'd occasionaly play, its the kind of disc you want to play. I've had album version of this, with the spaceship cover and when I finally got a computer and discovered Amazon and Tony Careys disc, it took me no time to place my credit card number on the screen and have my cd copy. This cd deserves a 10, but I've rated the highest possible.

Best Tony Carey album,

When MTV was rockin' and no joking like nowadays, came this guy with a terrific song called "I Wont Be Home Tonight", the video was simple but fun, and the song is very catchy. I just hope you enjoy this CD as much as I did. I must say Amazon is the only place that currently has this item, as far as I'm concerned.

I Won't Be Home Tonight has always been called Tony Carey's first solo release, unfortunately there was one released before that one that would have been a natural success if ever released entitled In the Absence of the Cat. IWBHT is the most accessible currently while ITAOTC being extremely rare, (except to some of us with originals)leaves you with the fact that you will be purchasing the best album from the year 1981 and still stands the time. IWBHT is simply superb and not only worth buying but you will be extactic when you hear it if for the first time. All of us collectors own this cd, many many many many thousands. Most owning the second cover shot called "the spaceship" but labels dont matter, this was a US release when he was loyal to us, and although moving to Germany and on to Spain, he, remains to fans in the US a number 1. Buy it I give this cd a #5 no pass over that all the way to #10.

Tony Carey's "I won't be home tonight" from 1983 was actually released the previous year under the title "Tony Carey" (without the song "I don't care"), but that really doesn't matter. This album is the second best effort (after "Storyville) from the very talented singer/songwriter Tony Carey, who once was a member of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, where he played keyboard on their classic "Rising".The songs on "I won't be home tonight" are very melodic and catchy most of the time. Carey has managed to combine hard rockers like the title track "I won't be home tonight" with up tempo AOR inspired tunes in "West coast summer nights". He also gives us groovy and happy songs as "I'd tell the world about her", and beautiful ballads like "Carry my love". This release shows Carey's ability to be musically diverse and interesting, something that later got lost on more monotonous albums where the material has a tendency to melt together in quite a boring way. I highly recommend this album to anyone who's in search for good melodic music, performed by a talented musician with a great voice.

The Required CD to Become a True Tony Carey Fan,

This cd, which has been out of print for many years, is an absolute must for anyone looking for a new sound, a new sound that comes from many years ago. The songs included on this cd such as the title track, an uptempo rocker called "I Won't be Home Tonight" immediatly grabs the listener who then, and I guarantee this being a broadcaster for 15 years, can not wait for the next song to play. "Carry my Love" is one of the most beautiful ballads ever written and I guarantee once again that upon hearing it you will never forget it. This Tony Carey cd, his first by the way, leads us into many years of fabulous music, up to his current release "The Boystown Tapes". If there is any cd that would bring you into expanding your musical interests, and on through the years, "I Won't Be Home Tonight" by Tony Carey is must purchase for any music listener anywere in the world. With Absolute Truth and Honest, Kevin L.
