Lin Haifeng: Born on May 6, 1942, in Shanghai. He immigrated to Japan at 10 and became one of the students in Japan I-go academy in Tokyo. In 1955, he became a sho-dan I-go player and strived to be a ku-dan I-go player in 1967. He was the second Chinese after Go Seigen to carve himself out a position and achieve greatly in I-go circle in Japan. In 1965 when the ku-dan I-go player Sakata Eio dominated the I-go field in Japan, the 23-year-old Lin Haifeng carved out a way through the 4th Meijin competition and became the youngest I-go Meijin in the history of Japan by winning over Sakata Eio in the Challenge Competition by a record of 4 to 2. In his career, he won the champion of Honinbo and many other I-go matches. He was the champion of the 3rd Fujitsu Cup of World I-go Tournament. As he was so outstanding in Tengen match that he was awarded with the title of Honorary Tengen.
