4.0 out of 5 stars Vehicle MP3 player
This is an awesome little device. Just plug it into your lighter socket and turn it on. The sound is just fine, good rich tones. The remote has an equalizer. I have a 2 gb SD in it with about 200 songs so far. I get tired of Satellite and like to hear my own tunes on a trip without having to drag around a dozen CDs and hassling with them while driving. Only drawback is I...

This review is from: I-mobile Sd/mmc/usb/mp3 Wireless in Car Fm Transmitter with Remote (Red) (Electronics)
I stream rip an online radio station (Radio Paradise, highly recommended) so I can listen to it in our cars using an older Sansa MP3 player. One of the cars has an MP3 auxiliary jack and that works perfectly. The other car doesn't, and so I've used a small FM transmitter to broadcast the output of the player to the car radio. That set up is bulky and clumsy, so I was intrigued to come across this small device. Sadly, it's not very useful for my purpose.

First off, I received the I-mobile in loose pieces from Amazon. Everything seems to be new, in kind-of sealed packaging, but each piece was loose in the box. There is no documentation. Period. No manual, no cardboard packaging, not even a small slip of how-to. Fortunately, there are other reviews here where folks have discovered how to make it work.

I plugged it into the cigarette lighter and used the provided 3.5mm cable to connect the MP3 player to it, kind of - the jacks on the cable appear to be slightly shorter than normal and don't fit very snuggly into the player.

Found an open FM frequency, set the I-mobile to it, and powered up the MP3 player. It started playing, then started "skipping", something it's never done (not plugged into the other car, nor when using headphones). I tried a better cable and still had the problem. Nothing I did made a difference. I verified the MP3 player still works correctly in the other car and with headphones.

I also heard high-pitched whines and other noise when using the cable, even after trying several other frequencies.

When I stream rip, I put the music on an SD memory card. So I pulled the card out of the MP3 player and stuck it into the I-mobile. Good sound, no whine. However, as noted in other reviews, when you turn the car off the I-mobile will reset to the beginning of the track you were listening to. For individual music pieces, such as an album I tried out, this is OK although I found it annoying. However, for a long piece such as a stream rip, this is useless. If you're on a long drive, and you're two hours into a four hour stream, when you stop for gas the I-mobile restarts at the beginning. There is no way to fast forward through whatever is currently playing so you're stuck listening to the music you just heard.

I didn't try using a USB stick.

The car I tested this in is a station wagon. The I-mobile was plugged in the front lighter. The radio antenna is on one of the back windows. I got good signal and sound with the SD card; you definitely need to crank the volume on the I-mobile to the max, though.

Pros:
- Cheap.
- Good sound with SD card.
- Compact.
- Good range.

Cons:
- Bad sound with MP3 player (whines, noise).
- Interfered with MP3 player operation (skipping music).
- Restarts at beginning of music when turned off then on.
- Can't fast forward within a piece of music.

I would not buy this again.

I have a 2 gb SD in it with about 200 songs so far. I get tired of Satellite and like to hear my own tunes on a trip without having to drag around a dozen CDs and hassling with them while driving. Only drawback is I haven't found a shuffle function yet, but I have only used it a couple of times. Well worth it. I reviewed a higher-priced model and I found none of the problems the reviewers were complaining about. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 9, 2011

I found the product to be excellent in performance, if there was a negative thing to say it would be that, if using a flash drive the usb port gets broken from constant removal of the flash drive, however you still have the option of using a memory card which i appreciate.

When I ordered a pair of this product, I was surprised at the contents in the package. Upon receiving the package, both transmitters were in the box. Thats great, but one of the transmitters was missing a remote; a crucial part of the product. Because of the package fault, I must warn future customers, There is a risk involved when buying this product. Please keep that in mind if you are deciding to purchase this product.

It came with NO manual or instructions but it wasn't to hard to figure out.

I bought it to be used for long drives.

Pros:
- Easy to use
- Remote is having good range
- Work well with USB flash drive
Cons:
- MP3 jack is not working in my product
- When you switch of it doesn't saves the current location. So the track that is already played is repeated. Very boring.
- Introduces a lot of humming noise special when playing soft music.

Not really satisfied with the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, August 23, 2010

I read the reviews for this wireless car FM transmitter and I immediately purchased it based on the good reviews. When I received it I put in a flash drive loaded with music, dialed up a unused fm frequency and it played flawlessly. Then I inserted a 1 gig sd card i had in my wii loaded with a few dozen songs on it and it played great. This device is great I would recommend it to any buyer looking to replace a defective cd player in your vehicle at a low cost. It was going to cost $400 to put a after market cd player in my daughter's car I bought this for under $10. Great buy!!

Product arrived without any instructions and I was unable to get it to work with the USB cable from my phone, which is also my MP3 player. Tried to get an instruction booklet from Amazon and they were unable to help. Won't be buying anymore electronics from Amazon. I'll stick to books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Less than meets the eye, August 10, 2010

What would appear to be an elaborate, versatile "automotive media kit" is actually more of an unstable puzzle solvable perhaps by experienced younger minds and hands. It worked sporadically for me but not well enough to substitute for the CD player. At least the manufacturers appear to have confidence in the item's durability and effectiveness, even going to the length of providing an extra fuse. All the same, it would be nice if they went to the length of providing readable instructions along with a cable of sufficient length--at least more than 6"--to reach the iPod in the driver's pocket. Instead, the idea apparently is to "balance" the iPod next to the cigarette lighter and operate the device with an intimidating (if not hazardous) 21-button remote control. My missing iRiver transmitter admittedly cost several times as much but was ten times more effective.
