4.0 out of 5 stars great little radio
I bought this radio to use at work (I'm in construction) I picked this unit because the radio surrounds the ipod giving it protection from dirt and debris typically expected on a construction site.
The radio and Ipod portion work well for my need.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh - Ok Boombox
The radio and ipod play are great and very easy to use. However, I have purchased two of these items and the cd player does not work in either one.

4.0 out of 5 stars great little radio, April 29, 2008

I bought this radio to use at work (I'm in construction) I picked this unit because the radio surrounds the ipod giving it protection from dirt and debris typically expected on a construction site.
The radio and Ipod portion work well for my need.
the cd port is found on top of the radio and I expect that it will eventually fill with dirt and dust rendering the cd player useless. but as of now it works flawlessly.
The sound of the unit is very good and the volume is very good as well.
when using the AC adapter, the radio charges the ipod
unfortunately the radio also charges the ipod when running on batteries. (it takes 8 D cell batteries) that's not good
overall this radio is great unless you intend to listen to your ipod and run it on batteries.

For the price, this was a great investment. I like the fact that it is portable and that it has CD and radio as well as ipod. the only negative would be that it is sometimes hard to connect the ipod to the base connector on the unit. Sound quality is great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Glad it was free....., August 15, 2008
This review is from: iLive IBCD3817DT Portable Boombox with iPod Docking Station and CD Player/AM/FM Radio with Premium Stereo Sound and Remote Control in White (Electronics)
My wife won one of these at a meeting a few months ago - good thing because I would really be po'd if I'd had to put out some hard-earned cash to pay for it! It looks decent enough - although one of the grills had a small ding in it straight out of the box. It has no adapter for 3rd generation Nano's - but you can call(a non-toll-free number)and they will send you a couple of tiny foam squares to help 'secure' the current generation Nano (good luck making THAT work!). Most of these quirks I could have lived with - but what I can't tolerate is the truly awful audio quality - absolutely hideous. It won't take a high-end audiophile to recognize it either - even the worst ears out there will know this is REALLY bad. The thin and muddy sound oozing out of the speakers has absolutely no separation, depth, or character - it's just all "out there" in your face. The equalizer presets are laughable and the bass response is a whimpering after-thought at best. No way, no how would I ever buy this. It is good for me that it was a freebie - but it is bad that I can't return it. Don't waste your money here - unless you want to buy mine and I'll give you a better deal than Amazon ever dreamed of!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a clock radio, January 7, 2008
This review is from: iLive IBCD3817DT Portable Boombox with iPod Docking Station and CD Player/AM/FM Radio with Premium Stereo Sound and Remote Control in White (Electronics)
Ordered this boombox hoping to use it for a spin class in a 12 x 20 room -- not that big. The unit was stylish, but the sound was very "tinny", even with the "bass boost" engaged. The poor sound was evident using the IPod, CD player and FM radio. As the volume increased, treble became unbearable. Might have been tolerable for a clock radio, but not a good thing when you are trying to rock out in an exercise class. The set-up and the remote were both completely unintuitive -- should it really take reading the directions to set the clock? The remote's buttons were small and poorly organized.

I returned this item to the online store from which I purchased it. Their service, on the other hand, was fantastic.

We liked the product. Volume was ok, had ipod, radio, aux input, and cd player. Fairly lightweight and portable. Remote was nice too.

Then one day, it just stopped working mid-song. The radio thinks it's playing but no sound comes out for ANY of the sources (ipod, radio, cd). And of course the warranty has expired.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short lived, January 7, 2010

This review is from: iLive IBCD3817DT Portable Boombox with iPod Docking Station and CD Player/AM/FM Radio with Premium Stereo Sound and Remote Control in White (Electronics)
Like many of the other reviewers, I was a bit disappointed with the sound quality. The idea and overall features are nice, if somewhat cumbersome, and though the CD player was occasionally persnickety, it did work for us. But, like Robin Sullivan's review ([...]) it did just stop working after about 18 months. The unit turns on, but the backlight on the display doesn't, and though most controls are responsive (including control of an inserted iPod) the speakers are silent (though the "Volume" is up). The sad thing with this type of item is that it's not possible (or worth trying) to repair, and so just becomes a very expensive disposable (and dense land fill) item.

Sound quality is o.k., not great. No plastic spacers included for new Nano's. Shipping and packaging was good. Not impressed but decent ipod player for the money.

I purchased this Boombox for my friend as a present. it's a very good one. Portable, perfect sound quality. for all type of iPods (plastic adapters included), plus AC charger for iPod AC110-230V to DC5V (it was surprise). CD and Radio works very well. I think it was good choice!
