Limited life,

This review is from: IBM 08K8190 10.8V Li-Polymer Battery for ThinkPad Ultrabay Slim (Personal Computers)
Li-PO batteries have limited life through recharges and on the shelf. My first battery lost 35% of its capacity within 4 months and 9 cycles. My second battery lost 35% of its capacity within 6 months and 12 cycles.
When new, the batteries add 30-50% battery life, compared to the main battery. The Thinkpad power board will fully discharge the ultrabay battery before using the main battery. Also, the power board will fully charge the main batter before charging the ultrabay battery. As such, the battery routinely goes from full to zero to full, which is very hard on LiPO batteries. The real benefit of this battery is when travelling, or otherwise operating with a need for maximum battery life without lugging extra components. Alternatively, this could be used to allow you to swap main batteries without hibernating. Since the warranty is up on mine, it's fairly unlikely that I will acquire another one of these. It's more likely I'll purchase an additional 9-cell battery and deal with hibernate on swap.

Expensive but convenient,

Gives about a 50% boost to battery life without needing to carry spares. Replaces the optical drive which I find I rarely need on the road. Somewhat expensive.

Don't Buy!,

Your Thinkpad will always *completely* drain the Ultrabay battery before going to the primary battery. This will dramatically reduce the lifespan of the battery. My Ultrabay battery dropped to 30% capacity within 4 months, replaced it on warranty, and now is at 50% capacity.

Thinkpad Ultrabay Slim Battery,

This battery is doing exactly what is asked of it. It provides an additional two hours of battery life and is hot-swappable with my DVD drive.

The ultrabay battery is always used first before using the external one and it is only 3-cell battery.
