5.0 out of 5 stars Things I like about my IBM ThinkPad T20
I love the "trackpoint" pointing device and, for a laptop, it's got the best arrangement of keys. I got a refurbished one years ago and it's worked perfectly ever since. It has all the things I need - USB port, Ethernet port, internal modem, DVD drive - and it's very light and sturdy. It even has a little keyboard light so you can use it in the dark - e.g. in...

1.0 out of 5 stars IBM not worth it
I have several PCs. The IBM R51 I bought is the worst. The machine crashed several times within 30 days. Finally, it was determined because of a hardware problem (not something you expected from a new IBM laptop). After it was fixed, it keeps corrupting window XP OS. Calling support and service was no help, their standard anwser is to poush the restore button...

I have used a IBM thinkpad T-20 for 3 years and it never crashed. Never had any hardware issue. This notebook is really amazing.

The only thing may fail is that it starts to break, specially if you hold it with only one hand on the corner.

Also the backlit of the monitor may fail after some years of use (the flexible cable ruptures).

I have a T20 which is now "old" in computer years - 7 or so - yet it continues to chug through whatever I need it to do. Memory upgrades are limited to 512mb for this laptop so I'll have to move on to a newer computer, however, this one has been a reliable piece of machinery for the money that was spent when I bought it brand new. Today I was thinking of upgrading the memory from 256 to 512 so I stumbled on this site and thought that I'd add my 2 cents for anyone who's thinking of perhaps getting one of these old relics as a starter computer for a youngster or something like that.

IBM is not as it was before. Don't buy IBM!
