I've had several of these in the house for years, and they do what they're supposed to: provide stable support to store things in currently unused space within easy reach from where you work.

I use mine for all the small things I don't want cluttering my desk - stamps, return address stamper, stapler, tape dispenser, Jefferson cup full of thumbtacks, curious bowl-shaped paperweight full of paperclips, etc.

Take advantage of the depth to store things you need in-reach but less often. On mine, behind a front row of office supplies, sit the DSL modem, wireless router, and (when not in use) a web cam. If I stand, or even lengthen my neck, I can see or handle any of them - but they're out of sight and mind most of the time, without being hidden or out of reach.

This one's narrower than most - I have one that's close to 22" wide. You'll want to make sure that yours at least stretches to the edges of your monitor, or else you aren't using all of the unused space.

It should work equally well on computer monitors or TVs; we have one in each location, and I've had more in others. It of course won't work on a flat-screen monitor or TV, since it relies heavily (for stability) on the back pegs.

Those pegs extend by unscrewing them, which makes them easy to use and suprisingly stable. But even if your monitor isn't flat-screen, if the back of it slopes down dramatically, the screws may not extend far enough before falling out. The image above, for example, shows a monitor much more boxy (i.e. less sloped in the back) than mine is. I had to extend the screws much more, almost to the falling-out point, though they work fine. Any more slope, and they wouldn't.

Also, note the color. This or similar products are available in white, cream, grey, and black - and possibly other colors, as well.
