I found 5 errors in the practice exam questions and the solutions.
I wrote REA a letter that outlined these mistakes in great detail. REA did not respond to my letter. Five errors in the practice exam out of 132 questions seems like an awfully high error rate. I would not recommend this study guide.

This book gives a number of great tips and has really good practice tests that make taking the Basic Skills test far easier, definitely a product worth purchasing if you intend to become a certified teacher.

I found a couple of errors in this book, which really is unacceptable, but overall, it was a good enough
study guide. The IL Basic Skills test isn't very difficult. If you can read and understand what's in this book
then you should do fine. The questions on the test aren't any more difficult than what's in this book.
The most difficult thing for me was having to write the essay using a pencil and paper. I hate pencils.

I liked the product. The Basic Skills section had a really good review. If you go through it from beginning to end you are likely to do very well--or at the very least get an excellent idea of what you need to review. The Middle School Exam section was also helpful, though much broader in it's review. You definitely need to get this book at least 30 days prior to testing so that you can review for the Middle School Content Exam. You could just follow the Illinois Board of Education's learning expectations, but the test books gives you specific information you need to look up. The answer key provides you with a pretty good explanation as to why the answer is correct. The CD provides you with two real-time, really timed tests that give you an excellent feel for how the test will run. All in all, I'd say its worth the money spent.

The basic skills isn't what it used to be. It now covers through your sophomore year of college. This book is outdated and the content is very inaccurate to what you will find on the actual test...75% of all the students who took the new test in October AND November of 2010 FAILED! Save your money, hire a tutor.

The book is terrible they offer only one prep test and it is the absolutely the same as ICTS offers for free!!! So, there are no additional problems to solve,no exercises, no drill tests, no quizzes so you can prepare yourself for the test. CD that attached is simply a copy of the book!!! I just wasted money on this book!!!

This book is a great study guide to all aspects of the testing, including content covered, types of questions and format of the test. It also gives a great outline and suggestions for studying.
It arrived within two days of ordering in great condition.

This product is very helpul to one who wishes to orientate themselves to the ICTS testing process; however, it does have one too many errors. The answers do not match up with some of the questions.

This book was very helpful when i took the basic skill test. Since alot of the tips helped me score well on the test. THe only thing that was negative was the fact that the last two chapters were not on the test so i studied it for no reason.

The pre test CD was helpful, but I wish that there was more than just one actual pre test. Taking the same test over didn't seem to give true results for me. One feature I really liked, though, was that it broke down each subject section to let you know how well you did in each section. Give yourself at least a few weeks to study the sections you are not comfortable with if you are having doubts!! Use elementary books for social studies, for example, because there is not one question on the ICTS that doesn't come directly from an elementary text other than the teaching methods questions. The book gives relevant information to study, and quite a few of the questions on the pre test prepared me for the real test.
