All Music Guide

almost like a parody of rock, but that never stopped Pavement, CVB sounds as inventive and inspired as ever.

Product Description

In 1986 Camper followed up Telephone Free Landslide Victory with II and III which further illustrated the kitchen sink apporach to song writing, but even more importantly strengthened the proto indie rock sound, with touches of country as evidenced in "Sad Lovers Waltz" that would influence the bands from Pavement to Uncle Tupelo. Before Sonic Youth were godfathers of college rock, Camper Van Beethoven had already covered their "I love Her All the Time." The re-issue contains 6 unreleased or original versions of songs not previoulsy found on II & III.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm so happy to have this!, June 20, 2004
This review is from: II & III (Audio CD)
I think this is the best album Camper Van Beethoven has done. I've been on the verge of buying the Cigarettes & Carrot Juice box set (which features this album and four others, all excellent) for a while now. The box was the only way that this music could be bought when I first came across it. Then I saw the new reissues with extra tracks when I was out shopping the other day. I'm a sucker for extra tracks. I usually prefer to have them at the end of the disc with some buffer space, rather than mixed in with the album as they have been here, but the new track listing seems to work pretty well, with the exception of the repetition of "(We're a) Bad Trip." It doesn't hurt the album much, though, it just leads to the inevitable need to explain it to my wife when she says "Didn't we already hear this song?" All the bonus tracks are worth having and I'm glad to have this new extended version of the album.
