5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are great!
I would highly recommend this album to ANYONE, I've just recently got into Tiger Army, I bought this album expecting some mediocre, generic "psychobilly", but it was not that at all, Tiger Army has style and this album (along with the other 3) prove that. I've been listening to it non stop since I got it, I like a band that has variety, where I can tell songs apart from...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but no AFI
I first heard the song "Under Saturn's Shadow" a few years ago on an Epitaph CD sampler and fell in love with it. Of course, as is so often the case, that song is by far the best on this album, as I learned when I finally bought it recently. That is not to say that there are no other good songs on this album, because "Incorporeal," "When Night Comes Down," "In the...

I would highly recommend this album to ANYONE, I've just recently got into Tiger Army, I bought this album expecting some mediocre, generic "psychobilly", but it was not that at all, Tiger Army has style and this album (along with the other 3) prove that. I've been listening to it non stop since I got it, I like a band that has variety, where I can tell songs apart from each other, this album has variety. there are pretty straight forward "punk" songs like "Towards Destiny" and "F.T.W." and there are "psychobilly" songs like "Incorporeal", "When the Night comes down", and "Under Saturns Shadow".
Then there are songs like "Cupids Victim" witch is pretty much straight Rockabilly, and I love it. "The Orchard" is another fantastic song, its got a country feel to it, but in a real good way, definetly one of my favs on the album, in fact it might be one of the best songs I've ever heard, and I listen to a LOT of music, listen to it, I'm sure you'll like it..
There is an AFI resemblence to it, but Davy Havok does a lot of backing vocals, and Nick 13 has been doing backing vocals for AFI since the start so...............its understandable, I like it.
This is a great album, plus London May (Samhain) plays drums on it...............you can't lose, buy it NOW!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiger Army Never Die!!!!, July 15, 2004

This review is from: II: Power of Moonlite (Audio CD)
This album is great! Nick 13's singing is great and his songwriting is better. Geoff Kresge is playing stand-up bass and London May (ex. Samhain, Son Of Sam) is on drums. And on background vocals you can hear Davey Havok (A.F.I.) yellin'. Songs are sometimes even darker.
"Incorporeal", "Power Of Moonlite", "When The Night Comes Down", "Valley Of Dreams", "Annabel Lee" (inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's song of the same name) and "In The Orchard" (Marty Robbins ballad featuring a pedal steel guitar) are all great songs.

Tiger Army is a great band and this is an amazing album. Nick 13's songwriting skills seem to get better with each new track. A great example is under Saturn's Shadow and Cupid's victim. If you get the chance see them live also, they won't dissapoint. Hell, I went out of my way to see them w/a broken arm. Tiger Army THANKS for all your music and hours upon hours of listening enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiger Army is Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!, July 25, 2001

After listening to the first CD millions of times, I had high expectations for this CD. And lucky for me, this album shattered any expectations I had. Nick 13's vocals are a perfect match for his great guitar sounds, Geoff's bass lines are really boombastic, and London May's drums hold everything together very well. Some songs that are good to listen to first if you've never heard Tiger Army are: Incorporeal, Cupid's Victim, and Power Of Moonlite. My only complaint is that the bass isn't as loud on this album is it was on the first. If you like punk, rockabilly, psychobilly, or good music, I suggest this album gets purchased by you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the self-titled., December 31, 2001

First let me say that I'm not a psychobilly fan by any means, and I'm not even much of a punk rock fan (though I am a big Bad Religion fan). I just really like Tiger Army's sound and style. With that said, here's a few things I need to comment on with Power Of Moonlite...

As much as I liked some songs from their first self-titled album, I was bothered by the fact that many of the songs seemed very generic...there are only 4 or 5 songs on the album that I think really stand out from the others. And for the most part, these same-sounding songs were fairly dull music-wise. Also, I felt that the mix was WAY too slap-bass heavy. Often the drums and vocals seemed to be lost in the mix, and right up front was this toneless "SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP" that was just covering everything, and really got on my nerves after a while.

With this album, either they mixed it differently or they found a different way of recording the bass altogether, because the slap sounds aren't nearly as predominant. And that's not saying that the bass ISN'T...the bass lines are part of what makes Tiger Army great, and you can still hear them perfectly, without that constant slap hitting you in the face.

I also think the songs are more varied and more consistantly well-written. Even when some of them start to sound a little samey, they're still very enjoyable. My only big complaint about the album is the sequencing...I wish In The Orchard would be placed earlier on the album, just to give the listener a breather. Up to Cupid's victim (#7), it is a pretty constant vibe, tempo-wise and intensity-wise.

So, like I said, I'm not into the whole psychobilly scene or anything like that, so I can't really compare this album to any other albums of the same genre, but I have to recommend this to anyone who claims to be a fan of "all types of music." Tiger Army is definitely a step above most other punk rock out there today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiger Army, American Psychobilly, April 23, 2004

Tiger Army is true American Psychobilly.
Their music has a great sound to it. I highly recomend this to anyone. If you enjoy Nekromantix, Horrorpops, or American Nightmare then you'll be sure to like this band.
Also if you ever get the chance to see them live, then go and show some support. I've seen them many of times they put on a amazing show full of energy just like their music.

If you you like/liked AFI then you'll like these guys. Geoff the stand up bassist for Tiger Army used to play bass for AFI. Plus in AFI's new album you can hear Nick 13 and Geoff singing back up.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's good no matter what it is., September 26, 2002
This review is from: II: Power of Moonlite (Audio CD)
I really don't care if it's psychobilly or pop or polka for that matter. This is a [...] good album.
It's got steady rock beats, and Nick 13's singing is pretty high caliber.
The stand up bass adds a softer bass sound that gives the songs an earthy quality that is unique and different.
Don't try out the album because someone said it was such and such style of music, pick it up cause there's no filler on this album and you get your money's worth.

4.0 out of 5 stars the hellish spawn of Elvis and late night horror movies, January 10, 2005
This review is from: II: Power of Moonlite (Audio CD)
This album is a total beast. Great choruses, great musicianship, backing vocals by one D. Havok and there's EVEN a country song. If you wish that you lived in the 50's but somehow still posessed your copy of Walk Among Us, then you've come to the right place. Get it, get it now.

Whoever the hell gave this 2 stars is an absolute moron. I agree that Tiger Army's first cd was much Psychobilly than this one, however Nick 13's song writting has taken a new form and in my opinion gotten a lot better. My only complaint is the slapping on the stand up bass got burried in the mix. The coolest thing about Tiger Army is if you like A.F.I., or Stray Cat's, or Buddy Holly, or If you like the Meteors, then you will definitely like this album
