5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best CDs You've Never Heard
Sadly, not many people have ever even heard of the Soviettes. Case in point, Amazon.com doesn't even have pictures of either of their albums. For shame.

Many people may have heard of the Soviettes from "Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1," where they contributed an exclusive track, "Paranoia! Cha Cha Cha," a great song that got them slightly more attention...

1.0 out of 5 stars trash
If you like punk, you'll hate this garbage. A total mess, and not in a good way. Throw any copies you find laying around in the trash and be done with it.

Cha Cha Cha," a great song that got them slightly more attention.

Now is the time to listen! Their second CD, "LP II" is absolutely amazing. Unlike many other bands, all members sing on the album, including the drummer. Also, the lead guitarist uses a 9-string guitar, which gives many songs that extra "oomph!" Every song on here has the potential to be someone's favorite song, whether you're into emo ("Tonight"), political-punk ("Winning Is For Losers," "There's A Banana In My Ear"), girl-guy back & forth B-52s style ("Pass The Flashlight," "Channel X"), or just some plain old punkish fun ("Love Song," "Ten"), there's something on here for everyone. Or, in my case, it's everything I like on one CD.

At a grand total of about 24 minutes and the longest song at just over 2 minutes long, it's hard to get bored with this album. Almost every song is fast-paced, just urging you to bob your head or scream/sing along.

Recommended to everyone, but especially fans of Sleater-Kinney, Sahara Hotnights, and maybe even Black Flag.
C'mon, give it a try.

They are just straightforward and stripped down loud fast upbeat punk. But the _porterhouse "_porterhouse" advice, that you should throw this in the trash, is probably a stronger recommendation for it than anything I could say.

The Soviettes are the rock band that has yet to get the promotion they deserve. You can tell when you listen to the record that if this music got the right publicity, it could hit the alternative stream charts.
The Soviettes are really that good in LP II. They have an untraditional style of short, two minute, bursting with energy songs that is vaguely similar to the Ramones. Their guitars are their strength, not unlike Franz Ferdinand.
This CD is full of crazy tunes that don't often make sense, but rock anyway. My favorites were "Pass the Flashlight," "Portland," and "Channel X." Look into this CD if you're looking for a new take on indie rock, or are looking for a good, local Minnesota band to support. The Soviettes are one dynamic single from making it big. Support them for the awesome band they are.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy them both!, May 21, 2011

seriously. you won't be sorry. what can I say? so many of the songs by this band are the ones that I put on when I need an aural pick me up. it's hard to not dance in your chair the fast numbers. unlike some punk bands, the Soviettes can do slow songs without the listener wanting to skip those tracks every time. I don't think it's far out there to say that this group is like a harder-rockin B-52s.
