5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Ending, December 28, 2003

This review is from: III Tri-Logy (Audio CD)
Kingston Wall made only three albums, "I", "II" and this album. The band's story began in a bar in the late 80s, when singer/guitarist Petri Walli met bassist Jukka Jylli. Drummer Sami Kuoppamäki joined the band later. KW:s music is quite similar to music of Jimi Hendrix, Petri's idol.

All KW-albums form together really great musical experience, and every album does so on its own. When recording the album in 1994, Petri decided that "Tri-logy" will be the last album of KW. The musical adventure needed a great ending, and this album does it. Actually, in my opinion the album is one of the greatest musical recordings ever made.

The album itself is a bit dark. The lyrics of "For all mankind" is Petri's sort of testament; he committed a suicide a year later. The album is not easy, which is in this case really great. It stars with a simple rock song "Another Piece Of Cake", but then the mood changes. All lyrics of the album are philosophic, especially when Petri sings about "Mirrorland" or tells about the history of Scandinavia. The booklet contains a map to understand the alphabets and the origin of words. The atmosphere is quite hazy during the album, especially when trying to find the clue of the lyrics.

The last track "The Real Thing" is one of the greatest songs ever made. Over 15-minute track grows all the time, containing synths, excellent guitar and sax solos (played by Sakari Kukko). When the album is over, the mind is empty. One of the main questions is "What the hell is he trying to say?" or "How somebody can create such a great music?". One thing is for sure: you want to hear it again. And again, again, again...
