5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sound at a reasonable price
Just installed a set of these iMC HS-200 speakers in my helmet and love them! So thin you don't even know they are there. Even better I didn't have to glue/tape them in! Each speaker is velcro clam shelled between the front and back pad, NOT sewn up inside. Since velcro clings to my helmet fabric I just used the front pad and velcroed it right in place. Makes them easy...

I've got mixed feelings about this product. The sound quality is very good. Probably better than one can really take advantage of in a noisy motorcycle helmet. But there are a couple of negatives with the physical packaging that give me pause. Each speaker is velcro clam shelled between the front and back pad, NOT sewn up inside. Since velcro clings to my helmet fabric I just used the front pad and velcroed it right in place. Makes them easy to adjust and transfer to a new helmet later.

Some reviews on other sites complained about volume but they must be using small AA players. Mine are connected to a Garmin nuvi750 charged by the motorcycle's 12volt system and it's like putting your head in concert hall. Around town my mp3 level is at 40% or 50% and on the interstate 70% keeps me rockin' out no problem.

I've got mixed feelings about this product. The sound quality is very good. Probably better than one can really take advantage of in a noisy motorcycle helmet. But there are a couple of negatives with the physical packaging that give me pause. The foam/velcro speaker covers/mounts are much larger in diameter than the speakers themselves, which makes it hard to mount the speakers in some helmets and impossible, in my Arai, to get the speakers lined up directly next to my ears. Putting velcro or adhesive directly on the back of the speaker, and making the foam cover no larger in diameter than the speaker itself, would make mounting them in the correct position much easier. I ended up removing the surrounds and putting velcro on the rear of the speaker myself. But now I have no foam covering the speaker itself.

Another problem is with the connector used between the helmet mounted wiring and the coiled extension. Instead of using a small, light industry standard 3.5mm coax phone plug (or socket), iMC has used a large, relatively heavy proprietary connector. That means if I need a longer cord I have to add an additional cord, instead of replacing the coiled card with a longer one. And if I want a straight cord, instead of a coiled one, I'm out of luck. If the cord fails, I'm dependent on iMC for a replacement, if they're still in business and offer spare parts. All-in-all, not a customer friendly choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Helmet Speakers, April 1, 2011

I have these in my Scorpion EXO400 motorcycle helmet. The build quality is great, and the sound is acceptable, but not great. If you hold the speakers to your ears, they do sound fine, but when they are mounted in the helmet, there is an air gap between the speakers and your ears, and the sound quality and volume goes south. You loose all the bass. Also, that air gap lets more road noise in to degrade the sound from the speakers even more. I was able to improve the sound quality by mounting a piece of cardboard between the speakers and the helmet to get them closer to my ears. I also have a $20 set of Sony headphones that I believe are louder than these speakers are. You may end up with a better sounding set of speakers if you just take some old good quality headphones, cut off the head band and then velcro the speakers into your helmet. It will look exactly the same from the outside!

I have been using these speakers for about 1 year now. They are much better than the ones that they replaced. Great sound quality, easy mounting, and they have proved to be durable inside my full face helmet. Highly recommended!
