Editorial Reviews

About the Author

I am a slightly off the wall author and my novel The Magdalene Conspiracy, a religious mystery/thriller in the style of Dan Brown, was pretty successful. The second book in the Nicolina Fabiani Series THE IMMORTAL MADONNA is now published and doing well. I am currently working on the third book in the series. Watch my website yvonnecrowe.com for updates.
I refuse to be constrained by genres and have five other published novels which can be seen on my website.
Readers have commented that my writing is controversial, compelling, descriptive and evocative, and they become involved with the characters. What more could a writer ask for?
I am unable to restrain myself from becoming emotionally involved in humanitarian issues, as well as with my clients, readers and it comes through in my stories.
I currently live in my hometown in Auckland, New Zealand and love to travel to other countries and have been to Europe many times, as my very talented partner Harald, who designs my covers,is from Germany. This has given me the opportunity to fall in love with historical landscapes and their cultures, and also indulge in three of my passions, good food, wine and great conversation.
I have gleaned many ideas and settings for my stories by traveling to well known cities in Europe, and also through the small villages, each with their own special story, which have enabled me to create believable and sympathetic characters.
Currently I teach English to Muslim immigrants from Iraq. Both of these experiences were so enlightening, giving me an insight into the spirit and courage these people, whom I admire tremendously and respect, portray in their everyday lives and their story is so compelling I will be writing a novel about their lives.

The First Madonna is a well thought out and thoroughly entertaining book that questions the origins of mankind and religion. Once again Yvonne Crowe has made an exhaustive study of her subject which is one of the reasons I enjoy her books so much.

This is the second book in her Nicolina Fabiani series, featuring the fearless reporter and introducing a new companion/love interest in this book, David Baron, a Professor of Ancient Languages who brings a new twist to her.. Together they embark on a quest throughout the Middle East to discover the secret of a prehistoric relic which The Knights Templar named The First Madonna and attributed their fabled power and wealth to.

Nicolina is temporarily grounded from her journalist career when a militant Mullah places a Fatwa on her for exposing his militants in a less than favorable light during the Syrian War.

The Knights of Rhodes who morphed into the Knights of Malta inherited the Templar Knights holdings when the latter organization came up against Pope Innocent V1 and King Phillippe 11 of France, which led to their downfall. However, they could not locate The First Madonna and the power she possessed so they could harness it for their own purposes. Once again another rogue group of the modern Knights of Malta, become aware that Nicolina and David possess a clue which is leading them to the whereabouts of The First Madonna and they are hot on her heels. The story takes them through ancient sites where mankind practiced the worship of different Gods in the Middle East, which are fascinating reading.

Another winner for fans of Dan Brown, Kate Mosse and Steve Berry.

I have started reading books where from the very beginning, I lost interest.
This book was not one of those.
The more I read, the more intrigued I got and I couldn't put it down.
I don't wont to give the story away so I'll just say that it has a little bit of everything, action, politics, war, Archaeology, Journalism, far off lands, and a little religion thrown into the mix.
Although all the characters were very strong, my favorite was Lina, a Journalist who takes her job a little too much to the extreme.
With all the twists and turns within the book, I had to chuckle when nearing the end of it Lina mentions maybe writing a book about the whole adventure and remarked that "It had worked for Dan Brown."
I felt as though I was right there in the middle of all the action. A great read.
The author is very talented, she has considerable imagination and a well executed plot. You can't ask for much more than that. Very enjoyable, and I will definitely be buying more from her in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dug the book while they dug for artifacts! July 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Yvonne Crowe by her own admission refuses to be confined by genre. This book has a little of everything in it! I found myself digging the book and story while Nicolina and David dug for artifacts! I enjoyed everything the story touched on. I have been to Beirut and I know Yvonne has too from her descriptions. The travel genre is well covered. She covers another interest of mine which is music with some interesting tidbits I didn't know. Then there are historical tidbits I am fascinated by as well. What a great read! Nicolina is a great character, she is a very spirited and independent contrarian. I love it when she ends up doing things she initially says she will never do. The mystery gets you hooked right away and then you go on a wild ride. In the fiction world it doesn't get better than that! If you like historical fiction, mystery, romance, travel, and learning stuff, READ THIS BOOK! I am looking forward to some further adventures from this character and this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating July 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given this book for review and found it fascinating.

This well written and researched story has much food for thought, bringing philosophical and mythical ideas to life, such answers prompting almost magical ingredients into the mix.

It has its 'goodies' and 'baddies'and yet its historical base gives it a realistic and believable feel. I liked the characters and the dialogue, particularly between the two protagonists, which brought them alive - some great humour.

The concept was wonderful and I can only wish that by some miracle, that humanity will see the wondrous mystery within the world and stop wanting to destroy it.

A very good read.

Review of The First Madonna by Yvonne Crowe
NICOLINA FABIANI SERIES: Book 2

5/5 stars for story
3/5 flames for heat

By R.L. BAILEY

The First Madonna, book No. 2 in the Nicolina Fabiani series by author Vyonne Crowe had me at the title. I love books that have some kind of historical backstory to them, and this one does. The book centers on Nicolina Fabiani, a reporter for a major television network. She is sent on an assignment in the Middle-East, and on the plane going to Syria, she meets David Baron, an Archaeologist on his way back to recover some artifacts he discovered. While there, Nicolina catches something on film she wasn’t meant to see, and the people doing it don’t want the world to see. Running for her life, she and her camera man come back into contact with David, who helps them escape.

David is more than a simple archaeologist though; he is also a trained member of Mossad and works for them. Once she is safely back in Berlin, they run into each other again, and at a dinner, David tells Lina of his family and what they went through during World War II. But he also tells her of an artifact he found while on a dig, and once she is completely enthralled with the story, she asks to go along, the reporter in her wanting to know everything. They work out a disguise for her since she is so well known, and off they go. Thus begins the adventure.

This is a very well-plotted out, well-written book. There is enough adventure, mystery, history, and thrills to keep the reader interested. Lina is a smart, independent woman, and in my opinion, David is just the perfect man. Strong, sure, brave, all the things a hero should be.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to expectations
The story was interesting, but the errors in typesetting combined with poor language usage detracted from the overall impression. It is a comedown from the last book.
