One of the most unique books on the WWI Air War, December 19, 2008
This review is from: THE IMPERIAL RUSSIAN AIR SERVICE Famous Pilots and Aircraft of World War I. (Hardcover)
This January 1995, First Edition, is a collectors item. From the Product Details, it apparently has 19 more pages then the December `96 edition being sold elsewhere on Amazon and other places.
This book covers the Imperial Russian Air Service in extraordinary, beautiful, detail. The top historians, artists and scholars have worked years to put this together and it's a book that stands out from everything else on the Great Air War. Russian, and other aircraft of World War One are presented in lavish, fold out 12" x 17" scale drawings along with hundreds of historical photographs and color plates of paintings by the top WWI artists depicting historical events. There is also a complete section of beautiful, scaled color drawings of numerous aircraft from the war, uniforms, medals, badges, awards etc. Biographies of the Russian Aces and the French Aces who flew in Russia along with other, amazing stories. Detailed lists of aces, their kills, confirmations and comments are included.. the list just goes on and on.
For serious aviation enthusiasts this is a fantastic reference work covering a part of the war that has been sorely neglected. It's also the type of book that a layman can open to any page and find fascinating pictures, photos, stories and accounts about the first time airplanes were used in warfare and Russia's contribution.
