5.0 out of 5 stars Cooks everything and super fast
I have had this oven for about 5 months and have used it for everything: from hot dogs, to burgers, steaks, apple pie, frozen foods and even my own recipes. We love the results! so much so that even though we renovated our kitchen and got a new stove with an oven, we use that one to store pots and pans and cook everything in the InfraWave.
We love the convert button...

2.0 out of 5 stars Got a couple of years use out of it but...
I've actually owned this for a couple of years now and it has been great for chicken nuggets for the kids, hot dogs, quick meals like that. Was never crazy about it as a toaster and never tried to cook a big meal with it (anything bigger than a hot dog anyways!)

I wanted to write this though because like some others, we woke up this morning to this thing...

We love the convert button and use it for everything. The fact that we only have to enter the type of food, time and temperature that is in the regular recipe (or the packaging instructions) and it "converts" it into its time (usually half the regular time) is super easy to use. We also toast, bake and broil even frozen meats(like burgers, hotdogs and steak) and it all comes out perfectly done: juicy on the inside and grilled and brown on the outside. You might have to play with it a bit to find the spot that you like the most (for example my husband likes meats medium/rare and I like them medium well, so I add a couple of minutes to mine)
This is the best cooking appliance I have and I can only imagine how much I will use it in the Holidays to make green bean casserole or sweet potato casserole while the turkey is in the oven! Get one now if you don't have it! You'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome product, August 8, 2007

This is a great product, we now have barely any use for our outdoor grill or conventional oven. You can cook anything (fresh or frozen) in the Infrawave. We use it for breakfast, lunches, or dinners. The sausages come out crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! Pizzas, hamburgers, even pork roast, come out great too!

I've actually owned this for a couple of years now and it has been great for chicken nuggets for the kids, hot dogs, quick meals like that. Was never crazy about it as a toaster and never tried to cook a big meal with it (anything bigger than a hot dog anyways!)

I wanted to write this though because like some others, we woke up this morning to this thing being on and very hot. That had never happened before. Something inside it must have given up and now it does not matter if you use the power switch or not, the unit will always be on and heating at what seems to be full blast as long as it is plugged in. Unfortunately, with this being the case, you can't even control the temperature or any of the other cooking settings, its either full blast when plugged in, or nothing at all when unplugged. The controls are merely for show at this point. Obviously this is a huge fire hazard because this thing gets very very hot.

I gave two stars because it worked well for what we needed it for for the past couple of years but now its just a dangerous product to have. I got two years out of it, others seem to have gotten less time than that so please be aware before purchasing this that at some point, there is a good chance of this happening to you.

Just an fyi, I did try it on a few different outlets to make sure it wasn't the house electrical system and this is unfortunately broken on all outlets. Also, I cant seem to find this for sale or in any historical information on Black and Decker's website so it appears that they have cut ties with this unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not as fast as they claim, December 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Its a good TOASTER OVEN, sort of. I don't think its much better than the toaster ovens. It might cook a little faster for roasts but you do have to cover it with Tin foil or it will be black on top.
Casseroles cook ok but I really don't see the speed it claims to have.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Will Not Replace A Microwave And Is A Potential Fire Hazard!!, December 25, 2007

(REAL NAME)
I was so excited to receive this as a Christmas gift. I recently started dieting and was looking for an easy way to heat up prepared meals without firing up my full sized gas oven. According to the manual, you cannot place paper or plastic in this unit.(many prepared meals come in microwaveable or oven safe plastic dishes) You must use glass, metal or approved stoneware. A minor hassle if you're looking to pop in dinner right out of the freezer. But more importantly I noticed one evening the top of the unit was very hot. I hadn't used it for several hours, so that wasn't the cause. I found for whatever reason you must unplug the unit while not in use. When I saw another owners review about the small fire it caused, it made me wonder if I will keep this glorified toaster oven.
UPDATE 10/12/2008!!
This piece of garbage has now stopped working completely in less than a year of low-moderate use. It was of no use re heating food without being closely monitored. I am hoping to find a local repair shop to fix this and maybe get $15 at a yard sale for it. AVOID!!
Final Word 1/4/2009 Avoid "Presents for You"!!
After contacting the manufacturer I was told the unit was out of warranty.. Impossible since it was less than a year old, I thought..It seems the seller, Presents for You was selling out of warranty old stock..they were not very helpful and did nothing to help me settle the matter..The person who ordered the unit for me is working to get a refund from Amazon who has no fault in this matter..Avoid this unit and its seller Presents for You

2.0 out of 5 stars food doesn't get hot, January 17, 2008
We bought this oven four months ago to replace a swanky Krups one that exploded, and so far, the only thing it's good at is making toast. We've cooked several different foods in it -- salmon, sweet potatoes, meatloaf -- and reheated things like pizza, French fries and chicken tenders. While the salmon broils in 5 minutes, half the time it usually would, it's barely lukewarm. It's cooked, just not hot. The sweet potatoes just wouldn't cook, and we ended up having to microwave them while we ate the rest of our Thanksgiving dinner! We had to finish the meatloaf in the microwave too.

It's also really, really small inside. The largest tray that will fit it is 7" x 9". NOT big enough for squat. It only holds two slices of pizza (and those didn't get hot after 7 minutes; I could stick my finger right on the cheese, when in my previous toaster oven it was hot enough after a 5-minute reheating that I couldn't eat it right away).

Luckily the local store we bought this from is AWESOME and will take it back, even after a few months of use. It just doesn't do the job. Don't waste your money!

1.0 out of 5 stars It started on fire!, December 9, 2009
This review is from: BD INFRAWAVE OVEN S.S. INFRARED COOKING
I have had two of these ovens because I loved it. I used it in place of heating up our regular oven and found it fast and easy. After about a year, it started smoking when I wasn't using it and I quickly unplugged it before it started a fire. It no longer worked. I purchased a second one thinking it was a fluke but the same thing happened after 2 months use. After two near fires I can't in good conscience purchase another one but I sure miss it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inrawave oven by Black & Decker, December 24, 2007

Although I like the oven's features with it's easy use and clean up, I find the electrical smell while cooking disconcerting. I want a cooking food smell not electrical/ melting plastic odor. We thought we had left some packing material stuck to the oven but that's not the case. Our dog goes crazy when we turn it on. I think he is trying to tell us something so we are returning it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why are they still allowed to sell this thing?, October 2, 2011

This review is from: BD INFRAWAVE OVEN S.S. INFRARED COOKING
My second one in 2 years just broke down. I have had it for just a little over a year. At first I could not get it to do anything, then after a bit it powered itself up and the top element went crazy, just like in the other reviews I have read. Don't get me wrong, this thing makes great food and I love the way it will cook a frozen piece of meat to perfection. However, they obviously have the potential to be extremely dangerous. The risk of a home going up in flames is not acceptable. They should have been recalled a long time ago.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BD INFRAWAVE OVEN S.S. INFRARED COOKING
I purchased one of these toaster ovens over a year ago and we have loved it. Then this summer an electrician's accident fried it (along with our microwave oven and several other items). I liked the infrawave enough that we purchased a second oven to replace it and again are satisfied. The programming is mostly easy, food comes out cooked properly, and it is easy to use. The case does get hot, but as long as I don't leave combustible items sitting on the oven (which I wouldn't do with any oven) we are just fine. It does cook faster than a large oven or a regular toaster oven, but not quite as fast as a microwave oven. But after having seen some negative reviews, either we have been quite lucky, or this is a much better product than others have seen.
