Perfect fit and perfect performance.
These Mudclaw's have a bump under the heel, and man is that bump helpful in the grass, gravel, soft dirt and mud.
I wore these in a Spartan Super a few weekends ago, and they were awesome!

This is a great Trail Shoe. I run off road trail races, Mud Races, Spartan Races etc. These shoes see it all, from Mud, to rocks, to Hills, and Slippery Trails. They perform great in all of these conditions. I have better traction with these then almost anyone else on the trail. Running at Full Speed down a muddy, slippery hill, when everyone else is reduced to a slow walk is great. The only issue that I have is that when fully submerged in water, They do not drain very well due to all the side protection. I would like some outlets for the water, and this would be a 5 star shoe. The MudClaw 265's look like they will drain better, but are a 3mm drop, instead of the 6mm drop on this shoe. I like the 6mm drop though. My next purchase may be the 265's though to see if the 3mm makes a difference to me or not, but with better drainage.

They run a bit on the larger size for me, so I did not go up the usual 1/2 size on running shoes with this one.

Recommendation: I always wash in the washing machine after each race, and hang dry. They look brand new still.

Bought these this past week to run Spartan Race in Charlotte. This event was extremely muddy with all the rain we have had lately, and these shoes were absolutely awesome. Running up extremely slippery hills was a piece of cake. These shoes grip on rocks, trees, slippery slopes, slippery walls, got me out of seriously muddy mud holes, great for crawling under barbed wire under seriously slippery mud. The cleats at the edge really helped push me through this quite fast. My friends were using other shoes, and I passed them easily with these shoes on. One thing to note about these shoes is they have a "bump" under the heel. I've used the x-talon 212 as well, which are flat. These Mudclaw's have a bump under the heel, and man is that bump helpful in the grass, gravel, soft dirt and mud. Really helps bite in the sloppy stuff - great grip. Not a shoe for the street.

Definitely THE shoe you need for Spartan races. For those of you wondering if they would do well in a more dry race vs. a super muddy event. For super muddy - get these ! For dry, loose soil, I will absolutely wear these as well. For harder surfaces like asphalt not the shoe. For dry loose dirt - for sure.

Awesome trail running shoe, absolutely ideal for any mud run.

Just finished the Laurel, IN Spartan Sprint yesterday. It was pouring rain all day and everything was soaked on the course. This was the perfect opportunity to try these things out and I was so excited to see how they would function. There was not a single foot of dry ground to run on, and most of the course had that super think mud that you can't possibly imagine any sure footing in. The kind of mud that will swallow your shoe if you step into a pit deep enough. I have ran sprints before, but on dry ground. This race was BRUTAL with the mud, and by far the hardest Spartan race I've been in yet because of this.

These shoes made it feel like I was cheating. Plain and simple. For about 90% of the course, the traffic came to a crawl because people could not get any footing on these steep inclines and declines. Many had to sit down and slide all the way down the hills. Going up they desperately grasped onto any tree/shrub/branch they could find to make it up. I NEVER slipped once and never needed any assistance scaling a steep slippery incline. I felt like a marathon runner up against a horde of snails. The footing and grip are so sure, that I was confident enough to RUN down slippery hills. Usually people avoid the muddy part of the path and all cram into what looks like the safest passage. With these I was able to take the most direct path no matter how muddy and avoid all traffic jams. At one point another racer yelled out, "How the F*** are you not slipping!!?!". I just kept yelling, "Coming through!" and passed as many people as I could with these things on. It was completely unfair.

They are comfortable, light, and even though they are minimalist, I couldn't feel any bumps or rocks putting pressure on my feet. Feels like a dream to run in.

I bought these for participating in Spartan obstacle course races. So far I've used them in five Spartan courses ranging from the Sprint to the Super. The aggressive rubber nubs on the bottom are fantastic for climbing up the muddiest, slipperiest hills without sliding. The problem with the cleats though is that they do not shed the mud, it feels as though you've strapped on five pound weights after exiting any mud obstacle. You have to stop and run your fingers across the bottoms in an attempt to rid yourself of at least some of the trapped debris. Another problem I've found is that when they are wet and clogged with mud and you're running to the next obstacle, my ankles have tended to roll. I think this is because the heel is narrow and high while the upper support is minimal. For my last Spartan race a week ago I switched to the Inov-8 Oroc 280 which still has aggressive cleats (they even have small tungsten carbide spikes) but they are spaced out more leaving more room to shed the mud. They performed great, seemed to shed water better (no squishing after exiting water obstacles) and to my surprise did not slip at all when running on rocks (I thought the tungsten carbide spikes might present a slippage problem across rocks). The only problem I had with the Oroc 280 was wearing them to Walmart before arriving at the race site - they're a bit noisy when walking across hard surfaces (don't do this at home!).
