Best Flashlight Bar None,
By Confederate (Bethesda, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: INOVA XO 3 Watt Luxeon Flashlight - X0
Well, almost. Actually, I prefer it's twin, the T-3, which has a better switch mechanism, but the X03 has a sheath for your belt, so it's a toss-up.This flashlight is made like a brick outhouse and is appropriate for use in any kind of weather. It has a clear, wide, white beam that's bright enough to reach out far ahead of you. I'd have to say it's an outdoor light because, indoors, you can use an LED light that goes much longer on a set of batteries. This light is for camping, tracking and police work. It's also great as a self defense tool at night. Just hit a bad guy in the eyes with this and run. It also fortifies your fist if you need to strike your attacker. Botach.com sells the light for about 10+ bucks cheaper and sells batteries cheap as well. The price here is retail and who pays retail for things anymore, especially over the Internet. The light comes in black or brushed satin. They're both beautiful and made of the best commercial aluminum available. Also, there's no jiggle of the light when you shake it. It's solid.

[...]Let's put this in perspective. A standard 2 D-cell flashlight is about 16 lumens of light. A good 3 D-cell Maglite is about 24 lumens, not to mention almost 13" long. This 6" stunner is an amazing 82 lumens. The main beam is extremely white, but it looks like Saturn because the outer corona consists of several rings of light. No where near as bad as Maglite, but not what I expect from a flashlight of this quality. To turn it on, you can press the momentary cap button, or twist it clockwise until it stays lit. By twisting counter-clockwise a few turns, the light stays off even when you press the button. I was ok with it at first, but now that I have other LED flashlights with simple push buttons, this one is a bit of a chore to use. It does have the benefit of a hole in the end cap for a wrist lanyard, which is not included. Mine came with a simple nylon & elastic belt holder with no flap to secure it down. Much too easy to loose it, or have someone swipe it off your belt. Consider a better belt holder. The Hard Anodized finish is type 3, and very resistant to nicks, and scraches. You can tell type 3 because it is a dull black. Type 2 is shiny like all Maglites, and wears away with regular use. To it's merit the regulator circuit does in fact keep the light going at a consistent level until the battery weakens significantly. I have tested it with weakened CR123 batteries that measured at 2v and 125 mA of power left - considered dead for all intents and purposes. It still lit with usable light! If there is juice, it will light - just at lower capacity. I prefer the push button was on the neck, and maybe the ability to focus for a wider beam. It will resist rain, but don't drop it in water. Get rechargeable CR123's (3.6 seemed to work nicely!) to enjoy regular use without the expense of batteries. If I had known what I know now, I might have passed over this one in favor of some of my 120 lumen models. But 82 lumens is nothing to sneeze at, it is still blinding light. Plus that great anodized coating keeps it looking new. If you want something small, portable, and reliable for your car, truck, or boat, this will do. CR123 Lithium batteries have a shelf life of 10 years, and stand up to temperature extremes pretty well. Thus making this a great emergency light. See all my reviews for more LED flashlight opinions.
