There are two things wrong with this -

1) The batteries die very quickly - usually in twenty minutes or less.

2) The battery compartment is really poorly designed - batteries fall out of it even as it is being used.

Larger carpenter bees may only be stunned, not killed with this. Do not use on larger flying insects - they will get annoyed.
