5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars pending authenticity checks, July 4, 2011
This review is from: INSPIRE A NATION: Barack Obama's Most Electrifying Speeches from Day One of His Campaign Through His Inauguration (2009 edition) (Paperback)
Nice to have all this in one book. My only reservation would be to check the authenticity of the quotes, that it is not some sort of political spoof book. Obviously there is no shortage of political spoof speeches, misquotes, lies and garbage out there. My interest is in a definitive, accurate collection. That is why I am 5 stars pending along with a purchase. That being said, no one can ever accuse Obama of being short winded or confuse him with Calvin Coolidge. It is nice how the book begins with a "typeface replica" of a handwritten letter to his daughters. I would prefer a real scan of the source to get a better look at his handwriting. My god, the man writes page after page to his daughters like he is on the campaign trail: "In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation. I want all our children...." I suppose this is dad's way of unwinding from all the campaign stress, but you can almost feel them rolling their eyes in typical kid reaction to dad's affection and lectures, or maybe I am the childish one. Barack Obama's family letters are certainly not in the Mommy Poo Pants category of family correspondence that is for sure.
Fortunately, or unfortunately in this case, our new digital compilations give us unprecedented ease spotting Obama's most electrifying alliterations: "And as I announced yesterday, we will launch an unprecedented effort to eliminate unwise and unnecessary spending that has never been more unaffordable for our nation and our children's future than it is right now."
