Product Description

Say goodbye to plug-in lamp modules and get a clean, professional look with the new OutletLinc Dimmer. This revolutionary receptacle is the first of its kind to offer a built-in dimmer that can be remotely controlled from anywhere using devices such as a remote control, wall keypad or even your smartphone. The simple-to-use OutletLinc Dimmer has advanced features like an adjustable ramp rate that slowly brings the lamp on, a preset dim level that stores your preferred choice of 32 brightness levels when turning the lamp on initially, as well as load sense, so you can still use the lamp's built-in switch to turn the light on and off. It's made to be installed in place of any wall receptacle and controls incandescent loads up to 300 Watts. Also features a standard (always on) outlet rated up to 15 Amps

Works great, but I found it impossible to fit inside a standard electrical outlet receptacle box with two sets of wires terminating in the box (middle of the electrical run). I eventually found an outlet box that only had one set of wires (end of the electrical run) terminating in the box, and was able to fit the outlet. It barely fit, but it's in there. Just be aware the plastic box covering the electronics on the back side of the Insteon outlet extends 1.5" from the baseplate back.

This was very easy to install, if you're comfortable with installing outlets. And very easy to configure; I use Indigo. I've only got two small issues: first, I'm concerned about losing the little magnetic plug key that allows the top outlet to act as a dimmer. Not tremendously concerned, as I can buy a replacement OutletLinc Dimmer Replacement Key. The second issue is that the red LED turns on, brightly, when the lamp turns off. It's just another LED lighting up my once dark bedroom at night.

I have installed hundreds of insteon products, and in my experiences so far, the outlet linc dimmer is the only one that I haven't had a single failure on. Every other switch or device has gone bad eventually and needed to be replaced. I've yet to replace an outlet linc.

If you are looking at these, pay the extra to get the dual band, they are much more reliable. I've had no communication issues operating these, usually to power table or floor lamps. Be sure not to lose the little "key" which is a magnetic piece that slides over the plug of your lamp. The switch will not function without it. You can buy a replacement, but it is pricey for what it is, and then you have to deal with shipping, etc. For the minimal cost of that little piece of plastic with a magnet in it, it would be nice if smarthome would just tuck an extra one into the package as a spare.

This is easily controlled from a keypad linc, remotelinc, or isy device, with no reliability or communication lags.

I setup a switchlinc and this outletlinc to control a pair of lamps on either side of the family room sectional. It has been working great. I can dim the lamps, full bright them and otherwise control them on my insteon network. If you only have two devices then you will need to make sure that they are on the same 120V leg of your breaker box. Usually as you look at your breaker box, each alternating breaker vertically will be on different legs. So for this setup to work the switch and the outlet will need to be on the same circuit or on 2 different circuits that are on the same leg. I had to move one of the circuit breakers to make this happen for me. You can alternatively purchase a Smarthome 2413S PowerLinc Modem INSTEON Dual-Band Serial Interface, White to make this work without having to open up your breaker panel. Only open up your breaker panel if you are experienced with this type of electrical work or otherwise call an electrician or purchase a powerlinc.

I have found SmartHome Insteon products to be very reliable and well made. 5 stars.
