I bought a couple of these at another source a year ago. I've been using mine almost daily for most of that time, and it has served me very well. About two weeks ago, I began getting more air than water when I tried to drink from it, and I have not been able to learn the source of the trouble or to repair it. I cannot tell where the leak is occurring. Although the idea of an insulated water bottle sounds simple, the flip top on this thing is a clever and agreeable feature. The size is perfect for an hour or two of exercise or driving, and it keeps five cubes in ice water cold all night long -- all good. Wide enough to load ice and water at a gas fillup break, the bottle keeps the contents ice cold. The problem occurs because that neat little flip-top cap is a fairly complex little assembly, with co-molded parts and seals and latches, with screwed-in hold downs, and despite my best efforts I have not been able to detect at what location the problem occurred. I will attempt dis-assembly next, and if I can solve the problem, I'll follow up this review. Otherwise you can safely assume I'm using another brand.
UPDATE Aug 16, 2012
I disassembled my year-old Contigo insulated stainless steel bottle today, and am no longer surprised that it only lasted a year. The flip top on this product is quite clever, allowing a user to open and close the top with one hand -- but the mechanism is designed for failure. The way it works is that in order to prevent leakage, when the top is closed, the part of the drinking tube assembly that is built into the cap on this bottle is stretched and folded.

Prior to buying this 2 pack at Costco for $20, I had been using the Contigo 32oz autoseal (Madison) water bottles. I LOVE these so much more. They're easier to clean than the plastic autoseal bottles, and I love the autospout vs the autoseal caps. I find that I drink so much water with the straws. Plus the autospouts of these bottles do not get as gross as the autoseal ones and are much easier to clean. I've actually bought a couple of the 28oz stainless steel (non-insulated) Contigo autoseals and replaced them with the autospout lids which you can purchase on the Contigo website.

Pros:
1) Stainless steel is easier to clean and more sanitary than the plastic predecessors.
2) One-handed push button to pop spout up for drinking and spout shield covers and protects the spout when the spout is retracted.
3) Fits my car's cup holders.
4) So far leakproof.
5) My toddler loves drinking out of this so I can keep him well hydrated throughout the day. He's also dropped it a few times and it has not dented.
6) Although a previous review states that you cannot replace the bite valve, you can buy a replacement lid for $7 with free shipping from the Contigo website if necessary. You also have a choice of blue or black lid right now.

Cons:
1) This model only comes in 22oz size. Although they do have a 28oz stainless steel (non-insulated) autoseal version that I've replaced with the autospout lid, I do wish they offered a 32oz or 1L stainless steel model.
2) Wish that it had the Carabiner clip on the handle like the autoseal lids. I like that about the autoseal lids because I can attach it to a bag strap.
3) For this model I cannot get the last bit of water through the straw all the time and have to unscrew the lid to drink it out.

Ridiculous price!!! The Contigo Insulated Stainless Steel 2pk water bottles can be bought at Costco for for $20. For the price that they are being offered by this dealer you could buy 3 Costco memberships and the bottles. Whoever this is that is selling these things is trying to gouge. Save your money and buy them elsewhere.

I am very impressed with these bottles. My water stays cold. the spout operates with one hand. It has a straw so you can drink with your head level instead of tipped back. This is a very nice feature to have if you want to drink (non alcoholically, of course)and drive. The vessel doesn't sweat so I can put it down anywhere. When closed, the bottle doesn't leak. It only leaks by drops even when the spout is open, another good feature to have while driving. If you drop the bottle it won't immediately spill all over the car. I would guess the stainless body is more break resistant than other materials. I have already dropped it with the spout open and it rolled, spilled a few drops and was just fine when I caught up to it.

I carry a water bottle because I live in the desert. I am not an athlete or a back packer, so I can't speak to those uses, but for my purposes, this may be the ultimate water bottle.

Update 08Dec14: One of my bottles finally wore out where the rubber bends when you close the bottle, but I feel that I got my money's worth because I have used it nearly every day of the 2.5 years I have had it. I still think this is the best bottle for all the reasons I stated in my original review. I wash it in the dishwasher every few days. I have dropped it and dented it, but it continued to keep the water cold and didn't leak. It's time to retire it and start in on the second bottle.

Somewhere along the way I bought an inexpensive, generic sleeve for the bottle. It isn't quite tall enough for my bottle, but it protects it and keeps it from clanking together with my Thermos "Sipp" coffee mug when they are both in the console of my car.
