5.0 out of 5 stars Review of IOGear 8-port KVM switch
This is a very decent KVM switch, and unlike some cheapo 4-port switches, I have no problems with some machines reacting to being switched away from. The LED system is very intuitive. The blue power LED is possibly the brightest LED I've ever seen. I had to put some tape over it to keep it from overpowering the room when it's dark. Good quality case and rackmount...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Switch - Very bad cables
The switch has nice features. One can switch from the unit or from the keyboard. There are LEDs to indicate the status of connected systems.

BUT, the included cables simply do not support high resolution. This switch is claimed to support 1920X1440 but I had lots of trouble getting 1280X1024 out of the cables. When I used my cables from an older IO Gear...

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked right out of the box. No issues., January 28, 2008

I had a iogear 4 port kvm switch, but had to upgrade to this 8 port. Worked great right out of the box. I have 3 windows desktops, 1 laptop and 2 Sun Solaris workstations. I had previously purchased a PS/2 to Sun converter box to make the Sun systems work.

It's true about the power light, very bright... put a piece of electric tape over it and it's not as bad now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Value, May 14, 2007

Switch performs better than the one it replaced - and that switch alone cost more than this entire kit. It always responds to the keyboard shortcuts. Systems boot with keyboard and mouse functionality regardless of what port is active - including one that needed its port on the old switch to be active to boot properly.

One minor issue - the power LED is very bright. It looked like a monitor was left on in the room. Covering the LED with a small piece of tape solved this problem.

Product didn't work out of the box, spent 90 minutes with IOGear support, no help on getting the problem fixed. I'm going with a better KVM, returned to Amazon for a refund, stay away!

just works! plug-in and played without any problem.

switching is the fastest i've seen.

includes KVM cables so I don't have to buy them seperately, rack mountable, very well made product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average KVM for a good price., May 19, 2010

The power light is insanely bright. I stuck a couple of blank address labels over it and it is fine. My only real complaint is the hot key combination. Control + Shift + Alt + [port number or 0 for autoscan] + Enter all in 1 second is a bit much. I wish there was an option to change the hot keys. I'm personally a big fan of the double num-lock or scroll-lock option. Wish there was am OSD, but I don't think you can find one at this price point.

This is a nice inexpensive 8-port KVM. Build quality is similar to the more expensive equivalent Belkin KVM (which I also own). I bought this IOGear to replace a Belkin that now has display sync issues.

However, the keyboard port switching hot-key on this IOGear KVM is not too friendly (loss 1-star rating because of it). You have to press (in sequence) SHIFT, CTRL, ALT, and then the port number (all within 1-second of each other). Not exactly the easiest to do. I wish they kept their old hot-key sequence (which was simply pressing the left or right CTRL key twice to go up or down a port).

Would I buy this again? Yes I would.

IOGear makes one that can be cascaded, which I may consider trying the next time around; but it is more expensive.
