No beef with how the adapter works. The adapter itself works fine for me at the moment on Windows 7 and I'm keeping it despite my reservations of IOGEAR practices. I don't like it for the following reason. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE POST DRIVER INSTALATION SURPRISE & EXPERIENCE with this product. It is absolutely deplorable that something called easybits chat & games installed WITHOUT USER CONSENT during driver installation with absolutely no uninstall option. That is correct: No advance notice that easybits was installing and no uninstall option after its very unwelcome discovery. Had to manually search and delete any references in my system folders and registry to this completely useless and dispicable intusion into my pc.

Did I miss an optout during installation? Don't think so, and I'm not interested in wasting time to test on another pc to confirm.

Works fantastic with windows 7, great range, very happy. Unfortunetly its not plug and plan, i had to use the cd to get it to work and it put on about 6 garbage programs that i cant delete. What a shame. If anyone figures out how to get the drivers without the garbage please post. I couldnt find it on the website. Otherwise im very happy with the product.

Bought this to connect to a plantronics phone headset I have for use with Skype, but as an afterthought I also bought a logitech wireless speaker adapter. I was a little worried this wouldn't work with my linux (Ubuntu 12.04) system, but after finding another reviewer's comment with a line to add to my configuration, it works great with both the headset and the logitech device. I couldn't ask for more for decently under $20.

When I installed the drivers I found Easybits Chat and 5 Easybits games installed on my system. There was no option during install to exclude this. This is totally unacceptable. I've purchased IOGEAR products over the past several years, but will not be buying anything more from IOGEAR and will be returning the adapter ASAP.

Update: IOGEAR contacted me and told me the drivers now available from their web site no longer have the crapware. I haven't had a chance to uninstall the old drivers, see if the crapware also uninstalls, and test the new drivers yet; will update again once I do. Meanwhile I gave them a second star for the contact.

From another review...

In a few months, most distros should have the patch to the Linux kernel driver that makes this a friendly, no-hassle plug-and-play experience. That's when I'd give this product a full 5 stars.Else, if needed, just create a file /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf and put this one line in it:

install usb:v0A5Cp21E8d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* /sbin/modprobe btusb; echo 0a5c 21e8 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id

Detailed explanation: This device is handled just fine by the stock btusb kernel module. The issue is that the driver does not recognize the exact USB vendor/product ID. However, the driver was fixed just a few weeks ago. It'll just take a little time for your favorite Linux distro update to pick up the fix.

I plugged this into an Early 2009 Mac Mini. The Mac immediately disabled the built-in Bluetooth 2.0, and the USB Bluetooth 4.0 works great. I can now use Authy Bluetooth with my iPhone 5. I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.4, and no driver hacks were needed. It was plug and play.

For business purposes I ordered around 20 of these. So far I have had four of my employees come back with them not working anywhere from the first day to 2 months later. They just all of a sudden stop working. We have begun ordering a diffrent kind and so far they have not bothered us. This product is unreliable. You may get a good one you may get a bad. I fear that I'll have the replace the ones that are currently working soon.

- Installed it on my Windows 7 (home premium) machine using the software it comes with on DVD. It was able to discover my bluetooth headset and paired with it, but I'm not getting sound through the headset. Went into headset's properties and tried to "Connect" but eventually the process timed out with "Error connecting to headset. Please retry this operation."
- Tried with different headset and then with my phone, and got to the same point in all -- the IOGear adapter would see headset/phone and would pair with it, but wouldn't "Connect", giving same error message as above (slightly different for phone).
- Installed adapter on a different Win 7 machine and got same behavior (only tested it with one headset though).
- Intalled adapter on XP machine using software downloaded from IOGear website, and it actually worked perfectly (testing with same headset as noted above).
- After that success, tried wiping the original install on Win 7 and re-installing it using software form IOGear website rather than included DVD, but got same behavior as noted in first bullet.

Since I need it for my Win 7 machine, it's useless to me.
