No beef with how the adapter works. The adapter itself works fine for me at the moment on Windows 7 and I'm keeping it despite my reservations of IOGEAR practices. I don't like it for the following reason. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE POST DRIVER INSTALATION SURPRISE & EXPERIENCE with this product. It is absolutely deplorable that something called easybits chat & games installed WITHOUT USER CONSENT during driver installation with absolutely no uninstall option. That is correct: No advance notice that easybits was installing and no uninstall option after its very unwelcome discovery. Had to manually search and delete any references in my system folders and registry to this completely useless and dispicable intusion into my pc.

Did I miss an optout during installation? Don't think so, and I'm not interested in wasting time to test on another pc to confirm.

Works fantastic with windows 7, great range, very happy. Unfortunetly its not plug and plan, i had to use the cd to get it to work and it put on about 6 garbage programs that i cant delete. What a shame. If anyone figures out how to get the drivers without the garbage please post. I couldnt find it on the website. Otherwise im very happy with the product.

When I installed the drivers I found Easybits Chat and 5 Easybits games installed on my system. There was no option during install to exclude this. This is totally unacceptable. I've purchased IOGEAR products over the past several years, but will not be buying anything more from IOGEAR and will be returning the adapter ASAP.

Update: IOGEAR contacted me and told me the drivers now available from their web site no longer have the crapware. I haven't had a chance to uninstall the old drivers, see if the crapware also uninstalls, and test the new drivers yet; will update again once I do. Meanwhile I gave them a second star for the contact.

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The product should not behave as you described.

Bought this to connect to a plantronics phone headset I have for use with Skype, but as an afterthought I also bought a logitech wireless speaker adapter. I was a little worried this wouldn't work with my linux (Ubuntu 12.04) system, but after finding another reviewer's comment with a line to add to my configuration, it works great with both the headset and the logitech device. I couldn't ask for more for decently under $20.

From another review...

In a few months, most distros should have the patch to the Linux kernel driver that makes this a friendly, no-hassle plug-and-play experience. That's when I'd give this product a full 5 stars.Else, if needed, just create a file /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf and put this one line in it:

install usb:v0A5Cp21E8d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* /sbin/modprobe btusb; echo 0a5c 21e8 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id

Detailed explanation: This device is handled just fine by the stock btusb kernel module. The issue is that the driver does not recognize the exact USB vendor/product ID. However, the driver was fixed just a few weeks ago. It'll just take a little time for your favorite Linux distro update to pick up the fix.

I plugged this into an Early 2009 Mac Mini. The Mac immediately disabled the built-in Bluetooth 2.0, and the USB Bluetooth 4.0 works great. I can now use Authy Bluetooth with my iPhone 5. I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.4, and no driver hacks were needed. It was plug and play.

I give this product 4 stars. I've gotten this working under Windows 7 Starter (one phone test successful out of one) and under Ubuntu 12.04 (two phone tests successful out of two), as well as Linux Mint 13 XFCE RC (one phone test successful out of one;LM 13 XFCE RC test was done in liveUSB mode). It worked great under both Ubuntu 12.04 and Linux Mint 13 XFCE RC in LiveUSB mode. I did have issues under Ubuntu with one of my phones, but I installed the "Blueman" Bluetooth manager and it works fine now. Linux is not officially supported, though you can get it working by following the steps here (found it off other reviews for this product) :
Open command line interface (CLI), bash, or some other terminal-like program/application. It should allow you to enter commands. Enter these two commands :
touch /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf

Then, copy and paste this into the file WITHOUT QUOTES : "install usb:v0A5Cp21E8d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* /sbin/modprobe btusb; echo 0a5c 21e8 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id"

Then, plug in your adapter and launch your Bluetooth manager ("Blueman" recommend). You are now ready to use the device.

I spent a good amount of time trying to get my PS3 controller (which uses Bluetooth) to work. I do not know if it was because of the programs or the OS, but I had MANY issues trying to get it to work and eventually, I gave up. 4 out of 5 stars.

Success :
Windows 7 Starter (1/1 phone with good results)
Ubuntu 12.
