Product Description

The USB 2.0 External Video Card allows you to connect an extra monitor to your desktop PC or laptop's USB port. The connected monitor can be configured to either clone your primary screen or extend the Windows desktop allowing visibility of more applications at the same time. The USB 2.0 External Video Card driver used to control the extra screen uses very little puter resource and offers a vast array of screen resolutions and color depths. This ensures that there is little difference in performance between a directly connected screen and a screen connected through the USB 2.0 External Video Card.Primary InformationVideo Output Type :  Video Card Form Factor :  External Video Interface :  USB MemoryVideo Memory Technology :  N/A Video Memory Installed Size :  N/A VideoMax Resolution (external) :  1280 x 1024 ProcessorGraphics Controller :  N/A ConnectorsInterfaces & Connections :  1 Female VGA / 1 USB 2.0 Type mini-B UNSPSC CodeUNSPSC Code :  43201401

Works awesome on windows 7 however it did require me to download the windows 7 drivers on their website.

Love these devices!

I've installed about 400 of them now, and they are incredibly useful. If you want to add additional video over a distance (USB runs better over distance than VGA), if you have a device like a low profile PC that it is difficult to add additional video cards to, if you want to add a 3rd monitor to a laptop, etc. this is the adapter for you.

Make it a point to go out to DisplayLink to get the most current drivers, since the install disk is ALWAYS out of date.

Great to add that 2nd monitor without opening the case. Good for those instances where refresh rate is not critical.

Are they good for gaming? No. At the same time, they are a good fit for an office environment, and attractively priced.

Works pretty much as advertised.
I'm using it to run a third monitor because my work computer was maxed out at two, and it has no room for expansion internally.
I'm running a 19" LCD at 1280x24x32 bit color. It gets a little choked up with moving images, at least at the resolution I'm running, hence the four stars. I would definitely not use this for a primary display, but it works well enough for a secondary display.
And contrary to what others may post, it works with Vista (x64 included). The drivers are on IOGear's website.

After browsing through some lukewarm reviews for this product, I had tempered expectations. I have to say, I'm blown away by the ease of setup and quality of the resolution. Granted, I'm using this in my office so I haven't run any games or hi-res videos on it, but for my purposes I'm thoroughly pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend the product to all fellow amazon shoppers.

IOGear USB 2.0 External VGA works as advertised. I installed it on a 3+ year old Dell laptop so I'm now operating with three screens instead of two. The USB External VGA does just what the additional internal video cards did in my desktop. It took about 10-15 minutes to set this one up (I had to move the installation software to a thumb drive and my laptop is a slow boot - I'm guessing most systems will install quicker). In my business I find my biggest computer need is more screen space, and I like a different screen for each main program. This product did what I wanted. I'll definitely be buying one more and maybe two.

I've been using this little box for years and I think it's just great. Contrary to what others said I run widescreen off this box and always have. It does, however, noticably slow down your system if you have an older cpu. You most likely wouldn't even notice on a new machine.

The unit only supports resolutions compatible with standard 4:3 monitors. Does not have resolutions for widescreen. No help from company. Support only open during business week. Drivers are updated, last 12/17/07. Nothing in latest verson that can help. Save your money.

This product had promise for adding a screen to my Lenovo T42 laptop. I installed it per instructions and when I hooked it up, only my laptop LCD display worked. There appears to be an incompatibility between this device and the ATI device drivers. After removing it, I could no longer use the video out on my docking station, "Could not load OEMDSPIF.DLL". After much trial and error, I had to uninstall this software, uninstall the laptop ATI display drivers, then reinstall the ATI drivers, and you can imagine how many reboots and missteps that all took. It was hours before I was able to use my laptop again.

Clearly this product is not for me.

I recommend anyone who has to work with excel spreadsheets to buy one. We have the IOGEAR at work and I love having the ability to use two monitors so I bought one for home. I bring work home a lot and it just makes it so much easier and quicker to get it all done.
