Does not support wide screen monitors,

This review is from: IOGEAR USB 2.0 External VGA Video Card GUC2015V (Personal Computers)
The unit only supports resolutions compatible with standard 4:3 monitors. Does not have resolutions for widescreen. No help from company. Support only open during business week. Drivers are updated, last 12/17/07. Nothing in latest verson that can help. Save your money.

Corrupted my video drivers,

This product had promise for adding a screen to my Lenovo T42 laptop. I installed it per instructions and when I hooked it up, only my laptop LCD display worked. There appears to be an incompatibility between this device and the ATI device drivers. After removing it, I could no longer use the video out on my docking station, "Could not load OEMDSPIF.DLL". After much trial and error, I had to uninstall this software, uninstall the laptop ATI display drivers, then reinstall the ATI drivers, and you can imagine how many reboots and missteps that all took. It was hours before I was able to use my laptop again.Clearly this product is not for me.

Great Solution if Internal VGA is not an Option,

Works pretty much as advertised.I'm using it to run a third monitor because my work computer was maxed out at two, and it has no room for expansion internally. I'm running a 19" LCD at 1280x24x32 bit color. It gets a little choked up with moving images, at least at the resolution I'm running, hence the four stars. I would definitely not use this for a primary display, but it works well enough for a secondary display. And contrary to what others may post, it works with Vista (x64 included). The drivers are on IOGear's website.

Love these devices!I've installed about 400 of them now, and they are incredibly useful. If you want to add additional video over a distance (USB runs better over distance than VGA), if you have a device like a low profile PC that it is difficult to add additional video cards to, if you want to add a 3rd monitor to a laptop, etc. this is the adapter for you. Make it a point to go out to DisplayLink to get the most current drivers, since the install disk is ALWAYS out of date. Great to add that 2nd monitor without opening the case. Good for those instances where refresh rate is not critical. Are they good for gaming? No. At the same time, they are a good fit for an office environment, and attractively priced.

This little device works great with my new HP All-in-One desktop running Windows 7. I love the lack of clutter, but I missed my old computer's two-monitor configuration more than I thought I would, and the HP has no outputs for a second monitor. I bought this product, got the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, and I was up and running quickly and without any problems.I have been using the GUC2015V for about a month and am very happy with it. A simple solution and a great value. My desktop is not used for gaming or other heavy duty graphics applications, but the resolution and performance appear to be working great on both monitors for my personal and business applications. My new computer has integrated graphics (ATI Radeon HD 4270) with 6GB of memory.

I've been using dual monitors for years, so when I learned that our company's new workstations were of the mini-me variety with only 1 video out and no slots to add a video card I was a little panicked (once you've gotten used to multiple displays, going back to just one is awful). After much searching I found this product and decided I'd take a gamble on it.Many months later, I am glad to report that it just plain works. It drives my secondary monitor and is reasonably crisp and perfectly acceptable at a resolution of 1280 X 1024. It's not the most beautiful display, you obviously wouldn't want to game, do image editing, or use at your primary display; but it is just fine for a secondary. I've experienced no driver issues or other strange behavior. It has exceeded my expectations.

I recommend anyone who has to work with excel spreadsheets to buy one. We have the IOGEAR at work and I love having the ability to use two monitors so I bought one for home. I bring work home a lot and it just makes it so much easier and quicker to get it all done.

Got a 9200 ATI All-In-Wonder AGP video card operating with nearly flawless TV Tuner quality that I don't want to mess with. Running both XP and Win 7 on same system and got the GUC2015V extended desktop (monitor) up and running on the XP version fine, but can't get it running on the Win 7 version because, IOGEAR says, I have old ATI drivers running there (I really wish the other video card had "no bearing"). I tried updating my ATI drivers and it dorked both versions of Windows and had to deinstall them or use the Restore facility to get back to the fine TV Tuning state. In XP, the GUC2015V works fine, but I am unable to get regularly updated screens when I try to move a DVD play over there (think I tried upping the refresh rate too), nor able to move the ATI TV play there at all. The GUC2015V is only 32MB, which is probably part of the reason, but it will update my regular windows functions, like Computer Management disk formatting, etc. fine. Can also move the ATI TV controller over there so it doesn't share the screen with the "play". They claim the overhead of the GUC2015V software processes is minimal, but I find them a little more CPU intensive than I'd like, but not overwhelming.

Easy to install and configure. This little gadget is the perfect addition to any laptop. I can now have three monitors in front of me at home and at the office. Lots of space. Go for it.
