4.0 out of 5 stars Don't you love it when it does what it says it will?
This one is a lil gem. Did you ever need to get the data from your SD card while at another puter? Of course you have. Enter this reader/flash drive. Not only is it very tiny and, erm, very affordable, it does just what it says it will ... reads, writes and stores so fast you have to look twice. (Wow! All those files THAT fast?!?!!? A-yup!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to remove Memory Card
It is not easy to remove the card once you insert it into the reader. The card is very delicate and can be damaged eailky. On most phones, there is a "push" button which releases the card. In this reader you have to yank the card out of the reader which can damage the card.

I'm very impressed indeed.

-It's tiny & cute.
-It installed itself like butter (Win NT, XP).
-Down the road, when you get a bigger card (and you so know you will), you'll have a bigger flash drive. So it should not end up chucked in the corner in a month or two. It's got a future.
-It's got an LED so you know it's working.
-You should be able to access your SD card data nearly anywhere.

Nitpick: The cover over the SD card while fine does not hitch on with quite the kind of security I prefer (it slides on and off.) No problems at all so far, but I'll be watching that and treating it with due respect.
Meanwhile: Success, simplicity and E-Bliss.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!!!, March 24, 2006
This review is from: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
I was having trouble with my media card reader for my PC. It was saying that it couldn't format either one of my cards. I thought that I would buy this to see if it would work. So far it has worked out great, I use a Kodak Easyshare digital Camera, and a Polaroid Studio 4 Camcorder, they both format the differently but the Memory Card Reader/Writer works just like a flash drive. The speed of it is awesome I transfer 1GB of data in about 2 to 3 mins!!! I would recommend this product to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A really convenient double-use device, August 2, 2005

The IOGear USB2 SD card reader provides an extremely fast and simple means for transferring digital photos from camera to computer. Just pop you SD card from your camera into the back of the card, and you have an instant plug-in device that works like a hard drive for transferring the photos to your computer. When you're not using the camera, leave the SD card in the IOGear reader and use it for a pocket USB drive. The only weakness I found is that the rear cap is not a tight fit, and I worry that it may come off accidentally.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best $10 I've spent in a good while., November 26, 2006
This review is from: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
I bought this lil' drive over a year ago, I had a 128MB SD card gathering dust and I figured for $10 I'd put it to good use... Transfers were a bit slow (pretty much USB 1.1-like) but it did it's job.

I recently bought a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II card and I figured I'd try it out w/the iogear drive, I was almost sure it wouldn't work but lo' and behold it does... And the best part is the ginormous speedboost w/this card.

I just tested it with HD Tach, with the old 128MB it barely managed 1.0 MB/s transfers, with the new Ultra II it pretty much drives the card at it's rated 10.7 MB/s speed.

The model number on mine is the same old GFR202SD and like I said, I bought it over a year ago so most of the ones out there should easily work w/2GB SD cards.

I've had mine for a year and the caps still fit just as snug. Great investment all in all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than a Jump drive but could use a key ring., February 20, 2006
This review is from: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
This is much better than a jump drive.. if you already have sd or mmc cards for an mp3 player or a digital camera then this product is a must. it costs a fraction of the price of a jump drive and you can change cards if you run out of space. the only thing that kept this away from 5 stars is the fact that i can't keep it on my key chain or on a lanyard. also the cover for where you put the sd card isn't as secure as i think it should be.. other than those two things this is an excellent product.

This product does what it says it will do and immediately too. It works like a flash pen drive and makes it so easy to move off the SD card to your hard drive just as if you were moving files from one folder to another on your computer. The caps are a little loose but if you use with care, it shouldn't be a problem. I am very happy to have found such a great product for such an affordable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little reader., January 9, 2007
This review is from: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
This reader is fast enough for my 2GB SD card. It is plug and play and extremely easy to use. It allows me to share files between my cammera, PDA, laptop and any other computer with USB in no time.

It has a hole on one of the cap that invites user to use the reader as a key chain, but I fear it will lose off, so I don't use it. It would have been a better idea to make a hole on the main body instead of any of the parts you can easily detach. But anyway, I don't use it and I don't need it. So, fine with me.

One thing bothers me a bit. The plastic around the USB plug is kind of wide and cumbersome. And though it looks nice, it won't fit on some front panel USB ports and you will need to use a USB extension cord, which is not provided. You would only need a 4-inch extension cord, but the shortest I've seen on stores is like 4 feet long.

Easy workaround, just plug the reader on a back side port. Those are more likely to have some space at the sides and will fit the reader just fine. Thing is when the back of a computer can't be easily reach.

But if you have an open and easy to reach USB port with some space on the sides on your computer's front panel or you use a laptop only, this device is sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful and practical, February 27, 2006
This review is from: IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
The IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer lets me make quick transfers of information to and from the SD memory cards that I use with my Kodak digital cameral and my Palm PDA. I can also use it like a thumb drive to transfer information between home and the office. Unlike regular thumb drives, I can switch out the card within, keeping my library of memory cards in circulation, and using them to greater advantage. I would find a dedicated thumb drive limiting. The IOGEAR Universal Memory Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader/Writer is handy, compact and versatile.

this device works great with my camera. i have a casio that you must dock in order to transfer pictures. it is way more convenient to bring the card reader/writer with me instead of the dock and cords.

it transfers pictures quickly. no complaints
