5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with PS3
I have three HDMI ports on the TV but four devices. I have a Samsung 1080P DLP with 5.1 surround. After reviewing and looking at all the switches I decided give this IOGear switch a try based on price. I have a PS3 and a Roku box sharing the device and it works perfect. The PS3 games and Blu Ray look and sound exactly the same. The Roku box streaming HD looks great. The...

The 5.1 Dolby sounds awesome on both devices. Plus I now have an extra HDMI port. The switch is about the size of a deck of cards and to install I just plugged in the devices, connected the box to the TV and the switch was in place and working in just a minute or two. It requires no external power source. The only negative is that the green LED lights for power and HDMI source are to bright. When watching a good Blu Ray with the lights off I hide the LEDs with a remote.

4.0 out of 5 stars Might need a power supply if using ps3 and 360, November 25, 2009

This review is from: IOGear 3-Port HDMI Switch with Remote GHDMIS3 (Black) (Electronics)
I wanted to plug in my ps3 and xbox 360 to it but there is a problem, the 360 draws too much power when it's plugged even if it is powered off (some devices seem to draw more power.) So if both systems are plugged, your ps3 will be a blank screen unless you unplug the 360's hdmi cable, or have the 360 on as well as the ps3 to get the ps3 screen to come on, which wouldn't make much sense. Oddly enough if you power only the 360 it seems to work even if the ps3 hdmi cable is plugged in.

There are 2 solutions, one is you could leave the 360's hdmi unplugged from the 3 port hdmi switch and plug it in when you wanna play the 360. OR you could buy a 5V DC 1A A/C power adapter and everything can stay plugged in and work normally (hopefully). Note power jack polarity is center pin positive, and is not included with this product.

All in all i think it was a good buy, but should have had the power adapter included.

I really wanted the four port for future expansion but at almost twice the price it's not a good value. I had no problem setting up the switch with my older sony tv (DVI input) and switching between a Directv HR21, a Roku Netflix Box, and a Vudu BX100. It even works with my Logitech harmony remote so I can use that to switch all of my devices at the same time.

Works fine with Apple TV after it has a power source, its best to buy with a power source from the start. Spent $25 at Radio shack for a power adapter, IOgear would send power source I think free in 5 to 10 days, didn't want to wait

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic, simple, gets the job done., September 28, 2009

This review is from: IOGear 3-Port HDMI Switch with Remote GHDMIS3 (Black) (Electronics)
I picked up this 3-port HDMI switch when I ran out of HDMI ports on my AVR. It has allowed me to turn one of my AVR's HDMI ports into three. It is simple, to the point, and gets the job done. It works either passive or powered, but keep in mind that when being used passively (no external power) that at least one HDMI device must be powered on to provide power over the HDMI bus. This is usually not a major concern, but might need to be taken into account if programming macros or activities on an advanced universal remote (Harmony, URC, etc). Also, no DC power supply is included, so you'll need to add one if you require active switching. One other handy feature is the switch's 3.5mm wired IR input, allowing it to be tucked out of site and another device (like an AVR) to be used to pass IR signals to it.

Audio and video quality seem to be passed with no degradation in quality by the switch. I'm using short cables (3') from sources to an AVR before passing through an AVR which again repeats/amplifies the signal, so I have not tested this switch at the beginning or end of a long cable chain without an active repeater.

I wanted only one HDMI cable running across the room to my TV from my three different devices. I had previously tried an automatic HDMI switch, but that did not work.

This worked perfectly. And since I have a Logitech Harmony remote, this unit's codes were in the Logitech database. I was able to add the switch to each of the three programs.

Problem solved.

2.0 out of 5 stars The XBOX 360 confusion, January 6, 2011

Follow the bouncing 360....
With the 360 HDMI plugged in to the switch and turned off - My BluRay and DirecTv did not work.
With the 360 HDMI plugged into the switch and turned on - My BluRay and DirecTv worked.
With the 360 HDMI UNplugged from the switch - My BluRay and DirecTv worked.
Needless to say, the power requirements for the switch are affected by the use of the XBOX 360.

Great switch as far as video/audio quality goes. The problem with mine is that it changes the input routinely and unexpectedly from other IR signals including when changing the volume on my Vizio LCD TV, my Samsung Blu-Ray player, and my AT&T Uverse set top box. I have sent an e-mail to tech-support on the IOGEAR website and have yet to receive a reply.
