Defective or not properly supported,

This review is from: IOGear Bluetooth Wireless Tilt Wheel Laser Mouse GME229B (Grey) (Personal Computers)
I returned two of these mice because the forward and backward buttons did not work. I ordered the mouse to use with a MacBook Pro based on the stated Mac support for this product. The mouse paired flawlessly, tracking was excellent, and the scroll wheel functioned well. The mouse is surprisingly light, and it fit very well in my hand. When I contacted Iogear support to inquire about the forward and backward buttons not functioning, they were very courteous and stated that the mouse is defective and should be returned. So, I exchanged the mouse for another one. Well, the new one had the exact same problem, so I became suspicious that this is a compatability issue. I asked if this was a driver/software issue, and Iogear support reiterated that the mouse is supported on the Mac and that I should again return the mouse for a replacement. I was not going to waste any more time, so I exchanged the mouse for another model altogether. Buyers should note that Iogear has no drivers for this mouse, so there is no ability to customize button functions beyond the most basic options provided by your operating system.

Bought this mouse for my wife's new laptop. I was looking for a feature packed mouse that didn't break the bank. Minimum I was looking for was a laser mouse with tilt-scroll wheel. This one fit the bill with the bonus of having a built-in battery. We'll see how long the built-in battery lasts. When I first tried to pair the mouse up with the computer I had major problems. It would pair up, work for a bit - maybe as long as 12 hours, but then for some reason it would disconnect. I would turn the mouse off, then back on again and then perhaps only 30% of the time it would re-pair properly. Afterwards, it would have difficulty re-pairing together. Just to see if it was a mouse problem or computer problem, I tested the mouse with my laptop running Ubuntu. No problems whatsoever! I was going to blame the problem on the mouse itself, but I did some looking around and it seems like the cause of the "unpairing" was due to Windows7's default setting of the bluetooth driver telling the device to "turn off" to save power. So following that lead, I went into the device settings and sure enough, Windows was set to "turn off this device" to save power. I unchecked that option and ever since, my wife has had no disconnection problems with the mouse! All the buttons work, including the forward-back buttons. The DPI button setting works great. You have to press and hold this button for about 2-3 seconds before it will activate so it is highly unlikely that you will accidentally change the mouse sensitivity. The mouse is very light and comes with its on velvet bag and short (~1 ft) mini USB-type charge cable - not long enough to use it to power a "desktop mouse" but just long enough to use if you have a laptop. I too noticed that after a full night's charging (the manual says to charge it for 10+ hours) the battery status in Window's bluetooth mouse properties page says that it only has "45%" or so, but who cares! If you need to charge the built-in battery either use the supplied charge cable or find a long enough USB cable to charge the battery while you use your computer! I'm assuming that the built-in battery's capacity isn't very large (i.e. standard NiMH rechargable AAA batteries are around 600-800mah), hence the mouses' very light weight. I don't know if it'll last 3 or even 6 months between charging. It does have a 5-LED charge indicator that shows you the internal battery level when you turn it on. So far after a week's usage it's still at "5-bars" charge. I haven't used it long enough to give any useful feedback on battery life.

I'm a bit disappointed with the product. Though it is very light weight, I think a bit more mass would make it easier to use. The Bluetooth looses conection 2 to 3 times over a 1 to 2 hour per session. Powering the mouse off and back on causes it to reconnected. My biggest disappointment is with the mouse wheel. The mouse wheel sometimes clicks loudly when scrolly. It depends on how I hold it.

I was looking for a bluetooth notebook mouse that was rechargeable, had a tilt wheel, a laser pickup, and back and forward buttons. Surprisingly, this was the only mouse I could find that fit those requirements. It works quite well, I haven't had any tracking issues, it pairs quickly and easily, its reliable (once you have your bluetooth hardware configured correctly), and is pretty comfortable. The lights, which indicate battery level and sensitivity are pretty much indiscipherable, the swapped back and forward buttons are a little weird (but actually makes perfect sense once you've used it for awhile), the tilt wheel only nudges the screen over once each time you tilt it, and the battery life isn't great (but acceptable). It gets the job done though, and I've had some pretty awesome mice before. If Logitech would make one of their high-end mice with bluetooth I would pick that up, but all of their top-of-the line models need a receiver, which I really want to avoid. The versatility is unbeatable and the price is decent. Overall, I recommend it, and at this point believe it to be the only mouse on the market that meets my requirements.

I received this mouse two weeks ago and the batery is still charged, all the mouse features work perfect, the only issue is that it does not get conected with the computer automatically when I get it on, I have to make to connection process every time, but once I am not a computer expert i do not know if it is because my computer or the mouse. I like it very much.

Made in China junk. Impossible to open blister pack. The mouse felt good, tracked well, paired well....at first. The next day re-pairing, reinstalling. At first, it would wake up instantly. After a few tries it would lag.The dpi switch was impossible to determine it's effectiveness. The documentation said an LED would indicate its setting, no LED would illuminate upon pressing the switch. The worst part was the mouse was unstable. It was not flat. It would rock from side to side, just felt so uncomfortable. After having it out of the package for a while the noxious fumes coming from it would choking, whatever plastic it's made out of it really funky. It's too bad, as it's accuracy and motion was better than the logitech i'm trying to replace.

Tilt Wheel Does Not Work,

When I got this mouse, I was pleased with everything about it, until I tried scrolling horizontally. Most mice truly scroll horizontally from the tilt wheel. This one acts like the left and right arrow keys. When editing text, it will simply move the cursor left or right. You cannot hold the tilt wheel to continue moving. I contacted support and got this: "The tilt wheel is one click one movement. We do not know of way to make it so one click equals a scroll." They admit that it does not scroll, yet the marketing material says that it scrolls horizontally. With that said, I liked the mouse in every other way.

This mouse has some qualities. The tracking is very good, the sensitivity level adjustment is a nice touch and the ability to charge it through USB while using it is nice also. I like the carry back that comes with it and I also "initially" felt good about the purchase because I trust in the IOGear brand.when I received the mouse it would not charge beyond 35-40%...frustrating. I contacted tech support-they were very prompt. They required that 'I' ship the item to them at my expense..$5-$8. This isn't a lot of money, but compared to the 35-ish dollars I paid for the item - I've now paid for 20-20% of a brand new mouse! The kicker here is that when I received the new mouse from IOGear - it had the same problem! So now I think that the company isn't even checking its current inventory for problematic devices - their just tossing these things into shipping boxes and sending them out (arg!). If I drop more money to have this one shipped back, then I'm half-way to a new mouse. Alas, I'm stuck using the unit I have. It is possible that the unit is charging fully, but some firmware issue with the mouse causes it to report the wrong battery level to the operating system.....only speculation though. In a nut shell I've lost my faith in the brand and I would not recommend purchasing this mouse under any circumstances. One last thing - none of the buttons are reprogrammable (i.e. the forward and back side buttons can't be changed to copy and past etc.).

Got for Christmas and dont like the design. The forward-backward buttons do not stickout like my other mouse so I cant feel them with my thumb. I have to look at the mouse to use them. Also the battery charge does not last like I expected. It was easy to setup.
