No more gas or oil to mess with, its lightweight, quiet & cuts just as fast or faster than the Jiffy I had.

I am 5'5" 115lb female and never tire drilling holes with the Ion - no jarring, light weight, no fumes, and slices right through.

This auger is a dream... The auger rotates somewhat slower than my Jiffy, but it cut through the ice like butter.

I had read a number of reviews of the Ion, but I was still somewhat skeptical until I actually got to try it. I went out ice fishing yesterday and used it for the first time and was completely impressed by the Ion. The battery was quick and easy to charge, the auger itself is a fraction of the weight of my old gas auger. The best part was drilling the holes. Not having to deal with starting the gas engine was a dream. There was only 5" of ice, but it cut through the ice like butter with no hesitations. The blades cut better than my previous gas Strikemaster by far. Towards the end of the day I decided to see how many holes we could drill through the 5" of ice. In the end I got up to 110 - 120 and still had charge left on the battery (between 1 and 2 dots on the 3-dot scale). At that point, I got tired of drilling holes and gave up, happy to know the auger is a champ when it comes to drilling. I look forward to being able to use this through thicker ice and many more fishing trips this year. No longer do I have to worry about the auger functioning or the risk of spilling gas in the vehicle.

I love this auger! It keeps up with my gas and propane auger, light weight, quiet. Starts every time and battery last longer than most would expect.

I waited a couple a years to buy this to see how it performed in the field. I bought one at the St. Paul Ice Fishing show December 2013. Simply put, this auger is awesome. I have never used more than 1 of the 3 battery bars and have drilled over 50 holes in 18" of ice. I have used the auger in -30F without battery issues - but I keep it in a soft lunch box with hand warmers when not is use. In temps above 25F I have left the battery on the ice and not had performance issues. The battery charges incredibly fast.

All that said, the best thing about this auger is how cuts ice like butter. So smooth and fast! No issues reopening holes. No starting or carb issues - just no issues all! I am 5'5" 115lb female and never tire drilling holes with the Ion - no jarring, light weight, no fumes, and slices right through. I have drilled about 500 holes this year already and only have one complaint - the blade guard sucks. It never wants to stay on and has to be lined up just right to slide on which is a pain with thick gloves. There is also a cross bar that the strap has to be threaded under which is again a pain in thick gloves and the strap ALWAYS is popping off both sides so I have to take care to not lose the damn thing. Other than that - no complaints! Just wish I had bought it earlier instead of waiting so long!

I have a shoulder problem and have had trouble the last couple years pulling on the starter on my old Jiffy, so I thought I'd give this auger a try. I have to admit I was a little leary in regards to how well it would perform compared to my old Jiffy. I was amazed. This auger is a dream... The auger rotates somewhat slower than my Jiffy, but it cut through the ice like butter. My old fishing buddy was a little skeptical when I brought it out also, but I couldn't get it out of his hands...he wanted to cut all the holes!!! I didn't count the holes we drilled, but we probably drilled 30 or 40 through about a foot of ice. It cut the last hole just as quickly and easily as the first hole. These augers are going to make gas powered augers obsolete. I'll never use a gas powered auger again after using this one... No gas and oil to mix, no spills, no mess, no pulling on a pull cord, no frustration... It's one of the best purchases I've made in a while!!!

The auger warrants a five star rating relative to its ability and ease of drilling however, the durability is questionable due to the new design of the actuation lever on the handle being constructed out of plastic that breaks easily in cold weather and in an environment where it is likely to get bumped. My friend broke his on his first use and being careful, my'n only lasted 3 weeks before I bumped it and broke it off inside the handle. The lever needs to be die cast aluminum or some other material. I notified them on Friday and the replacement part will be shipped, I'm told, on Monday or Tuesday at no cost to me.

Purchased this auger (8") after reading all the positive reviews. Was sick of gas leaking out of my previous gas auger and getting all over my car (didn't matter how I positioned the auger). This wasn't only my issue, but everyone I know who owns a gas auger.

Was thinking about a propane, but the reviews were only so so.

I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. It cut through just as well as my gas auger if not even better. Everyone who fishes with me can't believe how well it works. I cut ca. 20 holes yesterday through about 24" of ice and the charge still showed two of three green dots. Not too shabby.

The only suggestion I have is that if there is too much snow or ice build up on the auger blades it will shut off the auger. All you have to do is lift it up an inch or so and it will start again. My suggestion is that after you drill all your initial holes, clean off the blades when it's idle. Then when you go to drill more holes later you won't have this problem.
