5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy
Very reasonable cost.. "I bought two".
It moves air very silently on low and medium to high settings moves a large volume of air and has a very soft and pleasant breeze too.

It can handle frequent door openings as some ion models cannot handle introduction of new "unclean" air into the room without taking a fair amount of time to "reclean" the room...

2.0 out of 5 stars Needed warranty service
I hope I just got a rare bad one, but my unit purchased 6 months ago now sounds like a lawn mower. It gets louder as I increase the speed to medium and high. I keep it running 24/7 and I suspect the ball bearings in the fan motor are worn out.

This handles a large amount of air very quickly when on high and gives off a cool refreshing breeze with a fresh smell.

The Photo catalyst technology is state of the art and the UV technology is great for those who worry about live viruses and bacteria spreading through the family. No filters to replace, but merely vacuum and no blades to replace.

The UV light recommended for killing germs and you have a choice for optional use. If used constantly for about 2 years, the manual recommends replacing to maintain maximum killing power against germs.

For 100 bucks, you can't beat the coverage and "attack on 3 fronts" technologies to keep your room allergen free.
If your room takes allot of abuse from animals, fans, open doors etc.. get this.

If you prefer total silence all the time, I recommend the ION Turbo, but remember its drawbacks as mentioned above.

I don't like the idea of "finding" replacement filters and paying for them as some other models require.... nor do I want to replace blades as the ION turbo requires after about 2 years.

I called Therapure's customer service center to file a warranty claim and they offered to replace my unit, but they want me to pay $29.95 for a shipping and handling fee. That's 1/3 of the price I paid for the new unit 6 months ago and I'm not willing to pay another 30% of the price for them to replace my unit.

Just a warning, if you ever need warranty service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as claimed - maybe better., October 6, 2008
This review is from: PURIFIER,THERAPURE AIR,WE (Kitchen)
A few nights ago I came home to find the neighbor in the apartment below mine cooking out. All of the smoke kept blowing into my apartment. My neighbor in the apartment just south of mine smokes, and somehow the smell of cigarettes makes it into my apartment as well. I came home after a long day, and I could not breathe in my own apartment. I ran out and purchased this air purifier. Within minutes, the air in my apartment cleared up. It was like having a new window that opened up to fresh air. I am simply amazed. Odors are gone. As an added bonus, this moves quite a bit of air too, and quietly. It's nice having a cool breeze of fresh clean air.

This unit also has a very handy handle built into the top rear of the unit, which makes moving it around very easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely an air pruifier to buy, March 21, 2009

I bought this air filter about 3 months ago and it has done a fantastic job. I am a seasonal allergy sufferer and a smoker. Yes, I smoke in the house. This air filter does a great job in my 12x17 living room with a hallway and kitchen exposure. When I start feeling my sinuses clog up from all the pollen on the way home from work, I just turn this machine on medium and in less than an hour, my symptoms are relieved. I like the uv light to kill the germs as the surrounding suburban city governments are using it to purify their water systems with success. Yes, it works well removing the smoke from the air but the down side is the HEPA filter will be stained and the company says it does not detract from the performance and it hasnt. That is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. It is somewhat noisy on the high setting but any of the air filters are. On low setting, there is hardly a whisper. I have the product in the living room pointing towards the hallway where the air conditioner filters are and I have found the air in the hallway, kitchen and back bedrooms to be batter than without.

I was Skeptical, had ready many reviews, I settled on this for ability to clean filter instead of replace. 24 hours later I'm a happy non sneezing perfect sleep, no headache customer. I will probably buy another for other rooms.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you're truly sensitive to air pollution/allergens this just isn't 4 u, September 29, 2010

For me it turned out that breathing in burning batteries, tires, plastic and medical waste in Afghanistan may not have been in my best interests. Whatever has been the source of your need, consider this. If you are truly sensitive to airborne pollutants (as I am know), i.e. you have asthma, copd, acute respiratory disorder you need clean air. I bought this unit trying to save a few bucks, I bet that's why you're looking at it too. Well it is quiteish and it does have a pretty blue light on top, but it flat doesn't do the job compared to true HEPA. Should have known, how can one filter that looks kind of like the air filter in your car be permanent? The answer is it can't be, no one, hospitals, critical care facilities use anything other than true HEPA filters. If your just window shopping for a healthy feel good item then be my guest. If you truly need clean(er) air you're going to have to bite the bullet and buy the units with the replaceable (and expensive, sigh) true HEPA filters. I found a good unit in the Kenmore PlasmaWave series. Cost me 200 bucks for the unit for a smallish size room, the filter is supposed to be good for up to a year (which seems to be industry standard), but costs 59 bucks to replace. That said I simply can't put into words the difference in performance. My PEF (you know what that means if you've got lung problems) improved almost 10 percent with true HEPA in one month. Had I bought an actual True HEPA unit upfront I would have 140 bucks in my pocket, that would have been up to 3 years of filters (longer sigh).

Thought I should add that I ended up purchasing true Hepa filters for my PlasmaWave. I cut down one of the filters to fit this unit using the so called "permanent hepa type" filter as a guide. Works quite well. This filter set me back 60 bucks and cutting it down I can get two uses out of it which would last maybe as long as two years if you don't smoke, 1 year or less if you do. So if you bought this unit and McGyver it you can stay under 200 and have actual Hepa with charcoal prefilters to boot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shouldn't Smoke Indoors, November 7, 2009
This review is from: PURIFIER,THERAPURE AIR,WE (Kitchen)
For one thing, I don't know for sure that you can find a replacement filter once you move it to another location that is smoke free. It definitely gives off a smoke odor to the whole room if so. Smoking indoors is probably the worst thing a person can do to their health. I did that back when I was younger, and I have a serious mental illness following that and excessive use of caffeine.

My experience will tell you that if you smoke inside, you'll continue to inhale the smoke and end up needing to smoke more and more wherever you are. This will and should lead to chronic illness and a strong dependency on nicotine.

While clearing the smoke in a smoker's house might be a good thing, and this serves that purpose well, don't plan to use the same unit in another home where there will be no smoking. It will have the effect of blowing unwanted odor into the room.

Now that I've got it back from a friend, I am searching for a replacement filter. This one has been used daily for two months, and it's no longer usable in a home for him if he has a balcony. I strongly will suggest to him not to smoke in the house, because he'll always want this filter whether or not he does.

Note: I checked the Therapure 201m webpages, and they suggest washing it out with a damp rag. I've just now cleaned it with cool to warm water and dish detergent, and rinsed with hot water and then cool water. It's drying out in the tub, and I'll be sure to check in the morning if there's still a smokey smell.

Update: Great news. Next day after cleaning with dish detergent, the filter is good as new. I was thinking it could maybe cause the filter to fail doing that, but I am not for sure on that. No smokey odors coming from it, though, and I use incense to be sure it's not a tobacco smell.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not do the job!!, January 1, 2012
This review is from: PURIFIER,THERAPURE AIR,WE (Kitchen)
My purchase of the therapure air filter was held on walmart grounds 2-3 months ago. Received the the item in box with all necessary support, along with manual and warranty. This has been very good to me and have no complaints until just yesterday. On new years eve a cigar was lit in a very small room having the window open, I thought no problems. I was wrong, now my room has an awful smell which I cannot get rid of. Please, if you smoke, do not buy this product.
