5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Explanation Of VLSMs
This is a tremendous book for IP newbies and more experienced users alike. I bought the book primarily because I had not been able to find a comprehensive and understandable explanation of VLSMs. The chapter in this book dealing with that subject itself is worth the purchase price. Clearly explained with text, examples, and exercises, this book took a complicated...

1.0 out of 5 stars You cannot be serious!
Sorry but I thought this book was *very* poor. I bought it because of the title: IP "fundamentals". But there's very little here on basic fundamentals. Too often it goes into a rambling discussion of some obscure IP-related topic which may be quite profound to experienced IP users, but was complete jibberish to me.

Plus, the large dark graphic surrounding...

This is a tremendous book for IP newbies and more experienced users alike. I bought the book primarily because I had not been able to find a comprehensive and understandable explanation of VLSMs. The chapter in this book dealing with that subject itself is worth the purchase price. Clearly explained with text, examples, and exercises, this book took a complicated subject and made it quite easy to understand. The rest of the book is just as good. My compliments to the author for an excellent job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what the title says..., November 15, 2000

This book will definately show you everything you need to know about IP. It has been a truly valuable resource. If you are new to IP and Routing, however, you may want to read something a little more basic first. Without a basic understanding of IP concepts, this book may seem a little too complex. Excellent book to keep on the shelf though...you'll go back to it again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply an amazing book, May 30, 2000

I don't know what the reader who gave this book 1 star was thinking. This is one of the best books I have ever bought. It starts from the very begining, and methodically works through everything you could want to know about IP. If networking interests you, definitely buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very practical book on IP Networking, March 4, 2000
This review is from: IP Fundamentals: What Everyone Needs to Know About Addressing and Routing (Paperback)
One of the BEST books on IP Networking. While Comers, Stevens elobrate on the inner details of TCP/IP, this book focuses on the practical aspects of networking. The ratio of useful information per page is very high. One of the hidden classics of Networking. This is my honest opinion. This book may be a bit high level for the beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good practical (and comprehensive) reference and guide., July 13, 1999

This book is a fine reference for network professionals. Probably more IP than anyone person needs in one place, with good references and excellent examples. The style is clear and readable. It's very useful to see the nuts & bolts of how OSPF & RIPx work together. If you need one IP book, this would be a good bet.

5.0 out of 5 stars This will make it easier to understand the IP World., June 10, 2001
This review is from: IP Fundamentals: What Everyone Needs to Know About Addressing and Routing (Paperback)
I have passed several exam involving IP, Routing and Switching. I though I had a very good understanding of the concepts. After reading this book I found that what I knew only scratched the surface.

From the beginning of the book you get topics like IP and IP routing foundations, addressing, subnetting, VLSM, detailed breakdown of the first three layers of the OSI model, Ethernet technologies, token ring and FDDI, PPP and Frame Relay.

The author breaks down routing with RIP and OSPF very well and makes the concepts comprehensible for even the beginner level technician. Also he handles ICMP, 802.1q & p as well as first-rate coverage of DHCP.

The book seems very complete and the author makes sure to include the RFCs that correspond to the different section for the reference purposes. Overall this is one of the best books for IP subject matter.

The title speaks what it means by IP Fundamental. Good for all who want to take MCSE, MCP, CNE, CNA, CCSE and CCSA.It will help u to build a very strong ground of understanding an important Protocol. Practise the example of every chapter, it will test your understanding of that subject before you move to another one. Good luck.

This book is amazing. I purchased it to get a firm grasp on subnetting, and it did for me what no other resource was able to do. The informative chapters followed by real world exercises really made me understand the underlying reasons as to why sunbetting was necessary and how it could be applied in real world scenerios. I only gave this book a 4 because at some points the writing does get a bit wordy, reading more like a technical manual. But other than that, this book is a keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why not call it - "IP Routing - Everything you need to know", February 19, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: IP Fundamentals: What Everyone Needs to Know About Addressing and Routing (Paperback)
If you *ever* had an unanswered question about IP routing, this is the book to buy - if you're a network engineer or webmaster, get your company to buy a dozen and keep them on the shelves. It starts off as a basic book on IP, but when it's done, you should know everything there is to know about IP. I only wish I had this when I was starting off. If the work on TCP/IP wasn't enough, the chapters on routing are classics.
