I did my research and found this is the best large room air purifier on the market. I have suffered from allergies all my life and have been through all the medications. I still use the medications but as I grow older they seem to be less effective so I thought it time to try an air purifier. My wife has just begun to suffer from allergies. Both of us noticed that when we were in the room with the IQAir we stopped having runny noses and stopped sneezing. (When I moved it to the bedroom the snoring stopped too.) So now I find there is only one thing to do and that is buy another air purifier for the bedroom. Since this IQ Air may be a "compact" it is still a lug taking it up the steps. I only wish I could afford to buy one for my car and one for my office.

Foul smell,

Really wanted to like this as it seemed these IQAir units are the best. After plugging it in, immediately noticed a very strong plastic-like odor. Assumed it would go away after a few hours. Well a few days later and the smell is still as strong and really unbearable in the nursery we put this in. Just read the other reviews for some of the other IQ Air products and saw that some attributed the smell to the V5 filter. Seeing as how this unit doesn't have the V5 filter, it must be something else. I will probably run it in the basement for a few more days to see if the odor works itself out and will call IQAir to see if they have a fix but if not this will be returned and will probably look at the Austin Air purifiers instead.

This air purifier was the only thing to get a neighbor's cigarette smoke smell from affecting our apartment. It also helped a lot with the dust problems we didn't even know we had before purchasing this.
In addition, the machine is fairly quiet, even at the higher speeds, with the exception of the very highest speed. However, we considered the sound of the machine a feature at night, since it provided a very even and subdued white noise.

5 years and still running strong,

I've owned this machine for 5 years now and it still works great. I bought this since i have severe indoor allergies. I feel a lot better indoors now than I do outdoors, so this does indeed work. I only had to change the HEPA filter once since I owned it, but you will need to change the premax filter much more frequently around once a year. I have left this on 24/7 for the past 5 years on level 2(anything above a level 3 can be quite noisy but level 2 does the job for my small space). It is quite an expensive investment at first but it sure is worth it in the long term. With the cheaper machines they most likely would not last this long so having to replace them 2 or 3 times could add up to almost as much. Also those other brands are definitely not as effective. So do it right the first time and get a high quality machine that works and lasts.
