X-10 needs an update,

I have a pretty extensive X-10 system (15 modules) the IR543 will only control 1 thru 8, so you can't eliminate the X-10 RF remotes as I had hoped too. Also, the first unit I received was defective but was quickly replaced.

This works great with our Harmony 1000 remote and we don't need the ugly white x10 tranceiver on the black wall of our home theater. It did require some timing adjustments in the remote to perform multiple functions. But what a deal for this application.

X10 to the rescue,
This review is from: IR-543 X10 Command Console By X10 Usa (Electronics)
This device has been around a long time and is still the best way (and the only way I can find) to use a Logitech Harmony rf based remote control to control lighting. So far it has worked flawlessly.

A nice way to add ir control to X10 devices,

This is just a standard X10 command center - with an IR interface. It does not come with a remote, so you'll have to have a universal remote that knows the codes. If you do, controlling the environment along with your A/V system - turning lights on and off, opening and closing drapes, etc - all becomes simple.

Very cheap feeling, but works good. It likes to be plugged into outlet by its self and you may have to move it after a while for no reason. I use it with x10 switches and harmony 1100. The price is so good compared to its competitors.

Not perfect, but as good as X10 gets,

Works pretty well. It sometimes seems like it gets stuck on a command repeating that command over and over and it locks up my entire X10 system until I either unplug this device or put my finger right in front of the infra red sensor, which unlocks it for some reason. But other than this occasional (weekly?) problem, it does the job of impressing my friends. My TV remote now dims my lights, turns the TV on and sets up all the other equipment. Plus I can walk up an press the buttons on this device to turn lights on and off in the house if I don't have my IR, or radio remotes with me. Lets be honest, X10 isn't perfect. Devices are expensive, but cheaply made. This is no exception, but still pretty cool.

This is a replacement for an older version originally made for Radio Shack.
The unit works well to control each device when commanded. The all on or all off function is a little more sporadic-- and does not always function correctly. It's a feature I never use, so this is no big issue for my application. All other functions operate as expected. |
