5.0 out of 5 stars Home for Christmas--A Masterpiece
Like millions of others I discovered the Irish Tenors through PBS. I promptly began looking for anything else by these wonderful performers and found this Cd. 2.0 out of 5 stars If you loved The Irish Tenors PBS you may not like this one
The best performance is Amazing Grace which was left off the PBS CD but is on this one. The Holy City is also quit good. The powerful harmony which was outstanding in the PBS original seems to be constrained or subdued in many of the Christmas Songs. I suspect the problem is with the arrangement, conducting and mixing.

Like millions of others I discovered the Irish Tenors through PBS. I promptly began looking for anything else by these wonderful performers and found this Cd. The music is soul-satisfying as the Christmas music is all sacred (the closest to secular is "Good King Wenceslas"). The arrangements are in turn glorious, tender, and sweet. "Suo Gan" by McDermott, ''Sweet Little Jesus Boy" and "The Wexford Carol" by Kearns are highlights. Of the ensemble pieces, "Silent Night" and "Joy to the World" stand out. But the crowning selection is "The Holy City." We are wearing the album out and it's only May. We'll have to have another copy for Christmas!

This is a powerful album, the best new Christmas CD I've heard in a long while. The songs are traditional, But performed and recorded with a sensitivity and emotion I have not heard in years. I played it three times the first night I brought it home!

5.0 out of 5 stars THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO WORDS................., October 19, 1999

to describe this wonderful CD. I suspected I, too, had Tenoritis with their first CD, but now I KNOW I have it. This CD is absolutely spectacular - three voices so beautiful, they truly do bring tears to my eyes. My favorite, however, is Anthony Kearns. He is an outstanding talent. His rendition of Ave Maria and Sweet Little Jesus Boy are next to perfection. The group singing O Holy Night is awesome and truly breathtaking. Every song, solo or in group just puts you in another world. I could just go on and on and on....I, too, cannot be objective where these three gents are concerned. Hope they do another concert video soon - very soon. Buy this CD- for sure, you won't be disappointed! You'll want to play it all year through, just not Christmas time.

Well, they've done it again. I was sure that I had hit a high when I saw the Lads perform live in Chicago this past June! What a magical evening for all of us at the United Center. The best was when Ronan Tynan brought the whole place to a pindrop stand-still during "The Town I Loved So Well"! The Christmas album gives the listener a real sense of the true meaning of the holiday! The selections are very good, with familiar and no-so-familiar tunes spaced evenly. John McDermott, Anthony Kearns and Ronan Tynan are in wonderful voice, as we have come to expect. I hope they make a video of this material and tour with it (back to Chicago, of course!) Knowing that these talented men have a following gives me hope for all of us! And if any of the Lads are reading this, a delicious home-made dinner is waiting for you in Illinois, for the asking. Just e-mail me (Jennifer at jlbesq@juno.com) with the date and you're on!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE IRISH TENORS: HOME FOR CHRISTMAS, December 17, 1999

This is absolutely the most beautiful Christmas CD I have ever heard. In the short time I've had this CD (two days), I have listened to the complete collection several times and have listened to Ave Maria (Schubert), O Holy Night, and Amazing Grace many times more. I've played it for two friends and know at least five copies have been purchased as a result.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must be played before Christmas, October 24, 1999

I had the privilege of sitting in the fourth row and hearing the Irish Tenors in person on September 25, 1999. They are truly wonderful artists and fantastic people. I bought their Christmas album the day it was released and it is absolutely beautiful. Everyone should add it to their Christmas music collection. It will make a marvelous Christmas gift, but give it early so the recepients can enjoy it throughout the holiday season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas music has never been so beautifully sung!, October 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: THE IRISH TENORS: Home for Christmas (Audio CD)
I received my copy of "Home for Christmas" and am totally overwhelmed by the beauty and clarity of the voices. Words cannot effectively capture the emotions I am feeling as I listen to this beautiful CD. I couldn't imagine that the Irish Tenors were doing a Christmas album--I was thinking it would be another album of ballads and such. I couldn't imagine that it would be as good as their original album. They have topped their original recording!. Anthony's rendition of "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" brings tears to my eyes. "Suo Gan" by John and the two versions of "Ave Maria" by Ronan and Anthony are indescribable. I recommend this CD to anyone who loves Christmas music and to anyone who loves the Irish Tenors.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!, November 6, 1999
This review is from: THE IRISH TENORS: Home for Christmas (Audio CD)
This CD is truly a holiday jewel... I had the privelege of hearing the demo version in a small pub in Dublin in September of this year. More spectacular was meeting Anthony Kearns and John McDermott at the afore mentioned pub and getting a impromptu performance. They are not only wonderfully talented but genuine and delightful people. Buy both CD's - they are brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Live From Belfast, April 15, 2000
This review is from: THE IRISH TENORS: Home for Christmas (Audio CD)
I first videotaped the "Live from Belfast" performance on PBS.I don't know how many times I have watched it. Then I bought the CD (as well as the "Live from Dublin" CD and video), thinking it would have a song book, but it didn't. That is the only thing I could wish for. I am delighted to find the "Home for Christmas" CD, as I have been told by two different sources that it is unavailable. As someone else expressed, I am glad Finbar Wright was given a chance, even though I am sorry for the occasion that made it possible. I am of Irish descent, and their songs (and especially their interpretations) touched me deeply. I would also like to see a list of other recordings, especially of Anthony Kearns. Pavarotti and Bocelli are the only tenors I might rank as equals with Anthony for ability, pure beauty of tone, and control. I have tried repeatedly to access their web site, but it is unavailable.
