The investigation into a series of rapes becomes a nightmare for Detective Alex Mendez when DNA from one of the victims is matched to him.

Life as detective Alex Mendez knew it came to an abrupt end two years ago with the murder of his wife. Now he is raising his teenage daughter alone. The demands of his job and the fact that his wife's case remains unsolved have been a strain on them both, but now a new case threatens not only what's left of their fragile relationship, but their very lives.

When three local women are brutally raped, the case consumes Alex. But, when DNA evidence found on the first two victims leads Alex to his suspect, it looks like an open and shut case, until DNA from the third victim is matched to Alex. Now, to clear his name he must face the demons from his past and reveal a long kept secret that could disprove the evidence against him, but doing so would not only devastate his daughter, it could destroy them both.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I have not looked at Dale Roberts work before but I certainly intend to after reading this one. What an incredible talent. I rank this one right up there with great books I have read by writers I love( James Patterson, Iris Johansen,Greg Iles and many more)."
Joann Amazon Review

"As an ER nurse and former SANE nurse I am usually very skeptical about fiction containing topics with which I am so familiar. Usually I end up disappointed because the story is not true to how medicine is practiced and I soon lose interest. Not the case with this book. It was excellently written and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was literally unable to put it down because I wanted to see the next twist and turn to the story. Unfortunately this story could actually happen, which is incredibly scary!"  Lisa Wheaton RN Amazon Kindle Review

"Excellent to the point writing style. I don't enjoy drawn out descriptions of every little thing. This guy doesn't do that." D. Brown   Amazon Kindle Review

"This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I truly couldn't stop reading. This book has many layers to the plot. I look forward to reading more books by this author."
 Audrey Amazon Kindle Review

"It has an awesome plot, great characters and was a "I can't put this down" type of read. Dale Roberts is now on my top 5 favorite authors. Can't wait until the next one!!" B. Amman

3.0 out of 5 stars Spell check does not an editor make.... October 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read it over the course of 2 evenings. It read easily, except for the grammatical and spelling errors. My own spelling and grammar have gotten worse as I get older, but I am the type of person who, when reading, notice all the typos and other errors. It interrupts the flow of the story for me, and, in all honesty, is really irritating. Any high school graduate who did well in English would have caught these errors, had they sat down and simply read through the book two, too, to for starters.. were instead of we're... very very simple errors that would have been caught if the book was read, and not "spell checked"-- and I even question whether or not a spell-check was used Of note, I read the Kindle edition- perhaps the print version has fewer errors?

I did read and finish the book in 2 evenings, but it was mostly for lack of other reading material at hand.

I know nothing about the author, and perhaps it was his first book. If so, not bad. The book had lots of plot twists, and intertwining stories, but it was extremely simple, it's all been done before, is way too obvious, and lacked depth. Much of it read as if the outline of the story was written, and the holes were filled in after the fact. I had the villain picked out about 20% of the way in, because of one small chapter that was poorly placed, and from then on, the "twists" were obvious. Places where I may second guess myself and ask "wow, maybe it wasn't who I thought" were clearly there to try to throw the reader off, but the lack of depth made it too obvious.

Other parts of the book had me scratching my head asking "where did that come from?" since there was no blending of the story in many parts see my reference to the outline with holes filled in).. It seemed as if the author said "wait-- I didn't explain that well enough, let me add a chapter here".

A decent 99 cent read, but not quite enough to encourage me to buy another from this author. I'll keep him on my list though, and check out future reviews. Hopefully they get better, I think there is potential here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weaving plot lines - a two time read! June 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A good summer mystery read! The plot line twist was so subtle, at first I missed it. I love medical mysteries!

3.0 out of 5 stars Would've been better, had someone proofread it first October 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was quite good, in theory. I liked the story line, and the plot moved along quite quickly. However, the spelling and grammatical errors got on my nerves so badly, I found myself concentrating more on the errors than on the plot itself. Please Amazon - consider fixing this book and re-issueing it so that the author has a fighting chances!

This book keeps you guessing right to the very end. Very well written and I consider it to be one of the best suspense novels I have ever read.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's an ok read
Good book but not memorable. Once the suspect is arrested the ending is predictable. I would recommend this book for anyone who needs amusement and has time for a quick read.

I loved this book, but have to agree with the other reviews in which the proofreading was cited. This author is too good for such shoddy editing. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD yarn
This is a reasonably believable police who done it with a bit of a twist. There was enough to it to maintain interest. I'd be willing to read more of this author.

More About the Author

In the past 22 years I have been a firefighter/paramedic,flight paramedic, police officer and ER nurse. I thought I had seen everything imaginable until my wife asked a "what if" question.
I pondered it for a while and decided the idea would make a great book. IRREFUTABLE was my first novel.
Many thanks to my readers who have made this dream a reality.
