5.0 out of 5 stars This is the chalk line to buy!
I've used quite a few different chalk lines over the years and this is the one to buy. It's a great value, it work well, it's saves time with the faster rewind, and it's down right inexpensive. I recently replace my stanley chalk line with this one and it's oooohhhh so much better.

You could buy one of the significantly more expensive chalk lines... but...

1.0 out of 5 stars chalk line
right out of the box 1st use it jambed, this is the 2nd one of this type (Craftsman) and both jamb up. i just bought the good old fashion Stanley yellow cast type...tried and true. don't bother buying this, do it the old fashion way and do a couple more wind ups and save yourself some trouble.

You could buy one of the significantly more expensive chalk lines... but really there is no reason to. Buy this one and save your extra cash for another tool.

Almost forgot, it's made in the USA.

4.0 out of 5 stars I agree - you cannot go wrong with this one, February 20, 2005
This review is from: IRWIN Strait-Line 64494 100 Speed Line Reel with 4-Ounce Blue Chalk (Tools & Home Improvement)
After losing my old Stanley chalk line, I bought this one based on the low price and the Irwin name. I have been very pleased with it so far. Though the housing is plastic, it seems like durable high impact plastic so unless you drop it off a building onto concrete you should be alright. The chalk is smooth and easy to see and the string is very strong.

If I were in need of another, I would buy this same chalk line again...

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak plastic gears, March 20, 2005

I wish Irwin would improve this design. I used this reel for about 3 months before the gear broke inside. I was snapping a line when the reel released. I took it apart to find the plastic gear inside had split in two pieces. Also don't have much appreciation for the line as it frays easily. I do like the speed of retracting the line. Maybe they will improve this one.
