Do not buy these clamps. They will break quickly. Irwin usually produces excellent equipment and I own many many of their bar clamps. I purchased 4 of these to hold 2x3 material together while fastening. Three of the four broke within 15 minutes of starting the project. The plastic piece that holds the clamp axel strips out with minimal torque and renders the tool completely useless. I have no idea why Irwin would put their name on this design. If you buy these you will be disappointed. Terrible quality and a waste of time and money. I would give them "no" stars if I could.

The job I was doing wasn't even that hard, just making a picture frame. One problem, was not enough support to keep the pieces in place, so I added a little more pressure, and the screws that hold the the moving head broke through and it was ruined. I would not recommend this product for anything that requires any strong holds, perhaps I just wouldn't recommend period. I do however, have a pair of Irwin's quick adjustable grips that are wonderful and have lasted for years.

I specifically searched for this clamp on Amazon to warn others from my mistake. This clamp is a joke. Irwin clearly attempted to outsource this tool to China and came up short. The problem is the clamp uses a bottom mounted worm gear to apply force. It is so far off of center and so sloppy (the clamping piece has approx 1/4" of play in it, if you can believe that) that it joints EVERY single piece that goes into it incorrectly. You will have a clean mating surface on the top that is visible. On the bottom the angled clamping piece forces the parts apart, so you will have a huge gap and it is unusable. Not a quality tool, do not waste your time. I could not think of a worse design.

Just like another poster, mine broke the first time I used it. I was a little surprised since there is some heft to these clamps. Mine failed at the part of the clamp that is movable and rides on the worm screw that adjusts to the thickness of the boards. There are 4 screws that are recessed and holds the two halves of this part of the assembly together. It doesn't appear there is enough material on the casting for the screw heads to hold the two halves together. Aside from welding the two halves together, they will get thrown in the trash.

First, let me say that I am an experienced cabinet maker and am somewhat of a perfectionist so my rating is not based on just occasional light use...

I purchased 2 of these about 7 years ago after having 4 of the bessey version for several years and needing more but not wanting to pay the bessey price. I also purchased the stanley one that was out at the time and that thing was truly junk!

Anyway, when compared to bessey, these are quite literally identical with one exception... The ones I received had a very nice rubber handle compared to the wooden one on bessey however It looks like irwin has now switched to the wooden handles too, and I can see why. I was using one of the irwins today when the rubber handle slipped and made the clamp useless. I've never had this happen on a bessey, but like I said, it looks like irwin switched to the bessey style handle now so maybe this won't be an issue any more.

As for keeping things perfectly square, I can understand how people would have a problem if they are using this as a clamp, it would not work at all. If you want something that will hold your boxes or drawers perfectly square until the glue dries, then these are for you.. In order for these to do what they do best, you must assemble your box FIRST, then use this to hold it square until your glue dries. Again, this is not for holding pieces together during assemble, but instead for keeping things square after assembly while the glue dries.

The design of the Irwin Quick-Grip clamp from Amazon is a good concept -- a perfect idea for construction of anything needing you to hold pieces in place for glue-ups and screwing pieces together. Unfortunately the Irwin clamp is "loosely" constructed with too much slop in the movement of the clamp, making it problamatic when trying to fit loose pieces together - you shouldn't have to fight a sloppy clamp as well as the parts of your project. The clamp should be a part of the solution and not part of the problem. I see this same clamp advertized under a number of manufacturers' brand names, e.g., the Jet 52841 and the Bessey Angle/Corner Clamp WS3 appear to be pretty much identical - I don't know whether they are all made in the same factory or not so this review may not apply to the other brands.

Cannot find a use for these clamps. With any type of 45 degree clamp up the clamps actually separate the joint even with biscuits. I have tried numerous ways to use these, including trying to clamp the clamp to stop the movement. Turns out the clamps add to the problems instead of eliminating them. I will just go back to the bar clamps. It turns out according to Irwin the extra black plastic pieces even confused Irwin Customer Support, they had to ask the engineers they are just for shipping purposes. Please don't waste your time or money on these clamps, unless you are in need of some really nice looking door stops, or you have a need to make your 90 degree angles anything but a 90 degree.
